UCL: Bassey Named In Ajax Squad For Liverpool Clash

Calvin Bassey has been included in Ajax’s squad for the UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool at the Anfield on Tuesday.

There were concerns Bassey could miss the trip to England after the defender picked up a knock in the Eredivisie champions 5-0 win against Heerenveen on Saturday.

But the Nigeria international has now been named in the club’s 24-man squad for the game.

Bassey made his debut appearance for Ajax in the UEFA Champions League against his former club Glasgow Rangers last week.

The 22-year-old provided an assist in the 4-0 win at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Amsterdam.

Alfred Schreuder’s side travelled to England for the game on Monday morning.

Liverpool are looking to record their first win in the competition after going down to a 4-1 defeat to Napoli last week.

  • Great news this is the game I am looking forward to. Calvin Bassey the star boy

    • I want to see Bassey against Salah so that I can check something…..The outcome of the battle between Bassey and Salah is causing argument in my office and I want that argument to be settled once and for all….. Bassey is going to dominate Salah with pace and power that is my argument.

      • @Akp I agree with you bro. It will be a really good learning curb for Bassey I believe and trust he will do well but it will not be easy however in saying that I belive after this game Europeab big wig clubs will sit up and take better note of Calvin Bassey

        • Lol I hate to bring this up. However, in hindsight Can you imaging if Cerezo did not cap this boy against Ghana( albeit I would still argue that one of the reasons Cerezo fate was sealed after Afcon was his eyerbrow rasing decision to overlook Bassey for Afcon which indeed worked in Basseys favour and as he put it gave him the determination to give that outsanding performance in the 2nd half of last season) we would most certainly be watching him in anguish filing out for the English national team. Coupled with already bukayo saka (whom today I would still say had pinick not gone public too soon with Nigeria’s attempts to court Saka England may not have capped him in time) would have been too much to bare.

  • Great news for Nigeria SE this will give us confident when ever SE is playing against any strong striker, Calvin bassey the world star.

    • What Nigerian couches should be looking for Is a better defense partner obviously not Ekon or balogun I think they’re time is done.

    I agree.
I will suggest Caleb Okoli from serie a.
let’s convince him to play for us.
if not, then Akpoguma will not be bad. at least, he has started the last three games as a centre back.

    • Caleb Okoli is an excellent central defender who can tackle and has lots of pace……He has come of age for Atalanta this season and he is the main man in their defense this days…..I think he would like to play for Nigeria because many defenders of Italian national took notice of how Ogbonna of west ham was treated by itali…….SE has a fighting chance of getting him onboard…..we need to convince him with a very genuine building process(project) against the next world cup……Ademola lookman too can help him in making that decision just as Aribo and Balogun helped Bassey.
