Udeze: Why It Would Be Wrong To Sack Rohr Now

Udeze: Why It Would Be Wrong To Sack Rohr Now

Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze says sacking Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr just under a month before next year’s AFCON will be a big mistake.

There have been calls for the removal of Rohr following uninspiring performances by the Eagles in recent games.

Despite topping their 2022 World Cup qualifying group, the Eagles struggled to impress.

They suffered a shock loss at home to minnows Central African Republic and had to force Cape Verde to a draw, which sealed qualification into the play-off round.

And following calls for the German to be relieved of his role, Udeze posited that the timing is too short.

“The timing is too short, a lot of people want Rohr to go but they are not looking at the timing,” Udeze said in Friday’s edition of his radio programme ‘No Holds Barred’ on Brila FM.

“We have about 33 days to the Nations Cup and bringing in a new coach would be like starting all over again.

“This has happened to us a lot of times I remember after the 2002 AFCON just three months before the World Cup they sacked the coach  (Amodu Shuaibu) and brought in another coach and we all know how we ended up that year.

“So if Rohr is asked to go now the timing is wrong, they should wait and see what he will do at the Nations Cup because of he leaves it will affect our players.”

The fact of the matter is, these NFF people themselves are a confused lot— so, whether they change coaches or not, it doesn’t change anything about who they are.

Whatever happens, if the Eagles fail to reach the Final (at least) in Cameroon, everybody already knows who to blame! I won’t say more than that

Udeze ‘man wey Sabi’ na God go continue to dey bless you o. The only ex player wey don dey try nack sense inside the head of nff and football fans since but Dem no wan hear word.

Rohr should resign. He can’t give what he don’t have. Lolzzzz

Previously I was of the view that Rohr should be sacked but due to Nigeria’s financial state, I will advice that we should sacrifice this nations cup and then apply the sack clause should he fail. In this way instead of paying him off with the two million dollar we will use it to hire a well skilled coach that will have the time to prepare us for the summer world cup and also use some of the funds to help develop other areas of our football. Let us sacrifice this nations cup since Rohr has refused to resign.

Beautiful football lovers like myself should therefore leave everything to God, go on Hibernation concentrate on self development and other stuffs until after the Afcon. When we have a clear stance then we will meet here and continue discussions. One Afcon miss will not kill anyone….

Mad oh! Who be this guy? nice response to @Chima. Nice one bro abi na sister? The name looks feminine… Hahaha. Mad Oh! Heads or Tail baba cash out.

IN one sentence, “you are wishing the team bad luck in AFCON”. It is good we know where you stand Mr.Samuel.

Please be reminded that the target is given to him (by contract) to win AFCON, Meaning if he meets that target and you sack him, you will still pay him off in millions. Heads or Tail, baba wins!

Next: He will lead the team to the World Cup because then you will not still have money to pay him off… Las Las, He gets to the semi-final of the Next WorldCup – JACKPOT! You will not be able to sack him because all Nigerians will rally around him (excluding you Mr. Samuel and Co.)

Welcome to the chessboard of paperwork. When GR will write his book, mark my words, one of the titles will be “CONTRACT-ACTUAL’ WISDOM”

I am not @Dr.Drey but will be flattered to be tagged as that dude.

See clones responding to yourselves. Una never miss Road reach. Loads of Clown!!!

I will not sack Rohr now too because he doesn’t have the mentality to win AFCON. He should go to Cameroun while NFF will frustrate him once he gets to the quarter finals, after the match sack him for not meeting targets. The team will deliberately lose so as to get rid of him. Give each player extra bonus for loosing

Sponsors would not need to waste their money on a white elephant for one year severance package. This is my HARD stance. Don’t crucify me oooo

    • chris 2 years ago

As a good coach as your name suggests… this is a good option abi? When a player has just two games to either make history for himself or stoop low to collect money (which he already has and can earn in a week in his club), TELL ME, do you think a right-thinking player will fall that cheap?

NEWS: All the players are in support of keeping GR… That bond is unbreakable now and the NFF will not rock the boat knowing that AFCON victory is the only major ‘gold’ victory by the board since 5years.

So your theory is dead on arrival Mr. Coach.

      • Coache 2 years ago

I don’t argue too much but go to Chelsea and learn from Lampard, Pedro, Fabregas how they played negative football to kick em coaches out. If that one is too far go and ask Aston Villa players why they lost 5 matches before Gerrard arrived and now the same players are playing well. It’s called Negative Common Sense.

I know is behind that your ID but I comment my reserve

  • He can not lead the team because your favourite players are not included that is why some of you can not even coach your street team mtchewwww…

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

@Chima E Samuels We ain’t sacrificing shit! Rohr must go…shebi it’s what you all wanted?? Now you have your wish.. instead of you guys to think through things before you post it here. No you will not.

    • @MONKEY POST Lol who said we don’t want Rohr gone. Rohr Must go!!! period..

    • Chima E Samuels 2 years ago

Omo that is why I love Zidane who respects himself. Rohr only exposed himself for not wanting to respect himself but rather only if they give him money. You think I have back tracked on his sack? I only want us to be wise and let him finish what he started so we don’t have to dash him any 2million not in this state that Nigerians are going through pandemic financial crisis. It’s time to mend the mess clause that Pinnick has generated. Another thing is I am not here for debate so no need to drag my name into any disrepute rather it’s NFF who inserted a mistake clause to a coach that has never won a major trophy before that should be Whipped!

  • Again I will riteate I would rather a new coach comes in and slects all our firing weapons even if he has 2 weeks to work with them, they are all professionals and if they buy into his philosophy as early as the first training session it is way more positive than having Rohr who will make a list of 40 players to please fans and then not try the new more capable players only to foo all all and prune the team down and we see the usual Moses Simon, Musa, Ighalo and missing Dennis and co now that will be a VERY BIG DISASTER. Hence i said in my previous post I hope that one of the agenda that was honed in that meeting was his basis for selecting players this has to change and his tactical impotence. I mean if Rohr is planing on picking Moses Simon again over Dennis then what really is the point of having Rohr???

    • Tope Adeola 2 years ago

The is no better time to sack Rohr than now. When we say it will affect us, the question is, is he not already affecting us now? The damage that his stay with the super eagles has caused is more than the FIFI ranking that we rejoice over every month. If you don’t want to sack him because you don’t have a lump sum to pay him off, you can ask him to step aside while you pay him his monthly salary but find another person be it a local or foreign coach that knows his job yet within what we can afford. I know that a blend of Amunike and Salusu should produce a better performance than we currently have.

The other point is; how do clubs cope when they sack a non-performing coach? Man United just Sacked Ole, Watford Sacked their former coach etc. But when it comes to the national team, the case is different as if the rules that govern football in the club are different from what obtains in the national team.

If you are ready to sack Rohr, please go ahead, the worst that may happen is we may not go far in AFCON which is not a given.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

Oga to win the 2022 Afcon and to do well in the qatar world cup sure pass under Mr Rohr pass any other coach under just one month…even though una like make una go hire guadiola or zidane and then play both Denis and dessers up front. Nothing for una.

  • go take over eagle then when you said somebody should f.. off.the coach!!

  • Exactly what I have said severally. Let’s give Rohr his final chance with the upcoming AFCON. East, West, North and South, thats our best bet……. the best we can do at this point

  • Presh 2 years ago

Why you just coming out now, it’s common sense. You don’t sack a coach like that. Tournament is around the corner. The team chemistry will fall. Nice one. Udeze.

  • Detruth 2 years ago

Only clueless fools need to be reminded that it makes absolutely ZERO sense to sack the coach now and whoever insists on firing the coach and causing people out for pointing out the fact that sacking a coach a month to a tournament is a recipe for disaster, is definitely NOT an Eagles fan. It doesn’t matter what you call yourself, your are an imposter you are not a fan.

  • I dont fully subscribe to that school of thought anyways. However, I wish the Super Eagles the very best of luck!

  • Akanlo Ede 2 years ago

True talk my guy. Chop knuckle a beg, you are the best.

  • A very shining example is Zambia who lost its entire team enrout 1994 nations cup. They shocked everyone by playing.in the final where we defeated them to lift.the cup

Thanks for the memories #GLORY! Some people should watch the SE vs Ghana 2006 AFCON and learn how to be good Goal Keepers. The two G.Keepers were outstanding. See Enyeama’s 68th minute one-on-one save even at a close range. If na Okoye, He will be on the floor behind his touch line even before the opponent strikes the ball. Pls and pls Okoye is not just ripe for SE no 1 gloves period! I watched his display in the recent SE matches and noticed that Okoye already anticipates a goal whenever the opponent penetrates his defense and guess what? He starts to blame his defenders as the ball enters his own net, as if it is impossible to save a one-on-one situation, SAD INDEED!!!

Pls get us a very good, reliable and dependable Goal Keeper even if he is currently playing in Isreal or elsewhere… Rohr and Alloy and their bizness partner (Pi*n*c) are scammers and clueless!

Please EFCC AND ICPC should investigate the millions of dollars in the Rohr contract termination clause… Something sinister is really fishy! Nigeria Football fans are very worried!

NFF if you like get us a quality team of indigenous coaches, if you like ignore the sack… A day of reckoning will surely come (whatever you sow, same shall you reap)!

    And Gernot Rohr incase you are reading this, I dare you to use the same line up you used in Lagos against Cape Verde at the AFCON by keeping our very bests on the bench;
    Maintain your Ighalo attack o; infact, ignore Dennis and keep Chukwueze and Ejuke on the bench;
Don’t get brilliant attacking Midfielders o, just stick to Iwobi who cannot beat an opponent to unlock the midfield and defenses rather fidgets whenever the ball is on his legs; …
G.Rohr, I mean maintain the status quo and smell humiliating defeats repeatedly…… Ye ye dey smell!

    Clueless + Ineptitude x timidity = Calamity…!

  • Finally a sane individual has made sense

  • Ralph 2 years ago

Wait and see what will happen at AFCON? Nothing is going to happen in Cameroon, the team will not do better than what they are displaying now, so if that is good enough to win or make any impact in Cameroon is up to you to judge, what we should be looking at is the WC Playoff, inducting the new coach with AFCON is not a bad idea, I cant imagine people still expecting anything new from ROHR

  • Nff should rohr now or else players Paul onauchu might get to nation’s cup at the expense of better player Paul is not just useless in his club matches I just don’t want to see him the nation’s cup team
