UEFA Nations League: Spain Maintain Unbeaten Record As Switzerland Pip Portugal

Spain concluded their UEFA Nations League games with a brilliant 2-0 win at home to the Czech Republic in Malaga on Sunday.


La Roja have now secured eight points from an unbeaten four game run, in mini-tournament at the start of the 2022/23 competition, with two matches scheduled for September.



Luis Enrique’s side look ahead to the autumn matches as the leaders of Group A2 ahead of rivals Portugal.



The hosts had the edge before the break with Valencia star Carlos Soler sweeping home from a following swift team move.



Substitute Pablo Sarabia secured all three points for Enrique late on, as he reacted to a loose ball inside the box, to make it 2-0.



In the other game, Switzerland defeated Portugal thanks to an early strike goal from Haris Seferovic.



Portugal are without Cristiano Ronaldo in Geneva after his late-season injury woes appear to have caught up with the Manchester United star.



The victory is Switzerland’s first in this edition of the competition.

Also, Slovenia and Serbia played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in today’s UEFA Nations League game.



The visitors took a shock two goals lead through Zivkovic and Mitrovic in the first half.



However, the host leveled parity in the second hald through Gnezda Cerin and Sesko,



Meanwhile, Slovenia rallied back from two goals down to secure a point against Serbia at the Stadion Stožice.



The visitors raced into a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to goals from Andrija Zivkovic and Aleksander Mitrovic.



Adam Cerin pulled one back for Slovenia three minutes after the break, before Benjamin Sesko restored parity in the 53rd minute.



Also, Norway cemented top spot in Group 4 after defeating Sweden 3-2 at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo on Sunday evening.



New Manchester City signing Erling Haaland opened the scoring on 10 minutes before completing his brace from the penalty on 54 minutes to double the lead.



Emil Forsberg pulled one back for Sweden just after the hour mark, but Alexander Sorloth restored Norway’s two-point advantage in the 77th minute.



Sweden got a second goal in second-half stoppage time, but Viktor Gyökeres’ strike proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

 

Moreso, Greece completed a perfect 12 points in four games in the UEFA Nations League with its 2-0 win over Kosovo on Sunday in Volos and clinched the top spot of its Division C pool.

 

Goals by Kostas Giakoumakis and Petros Mantalos settled the game against Greece’s main rival in the group, while Greece was dominant for the entire match and should have scored more.

 


In addition, Jonny Evans struck in stoppage time to rescue a 2-2 draw for Northern Ireland at home to Cyprus but only after some fans had repeated their calls for manager Ian Baraclough to go.

 

Evans bundled the ball home in the third minute of time added on as Northern Ireland came back from 2-0 down, having trailed to goals in either half from Andronikos Kakoulli before Paddy McNair offered hope in the 72nd minute.

 

Georgia and Bulgaria played out a goalless draw in Sunday’s Uefa Nations League game.

 

Both teams failed to find the back of the net after 90 minutes.

 

North Mecedonia bounced back from defeat as they thrashed Gibraltar 4-0 on Sunday.

 

Finally, Malta snatched a precious 1-0 win over San Marino in Sunday’s UEFA Nations League.

 

The only goal of the game was scored by Zach Muscat in the 50th minute.
