Undefeated Lasisi Fights Nicaragua’s Blandon In Dubai For WBC Int’l Title

Dubai-based Nigerian fighter Aliu Lasisi will Friday at Emirates Golf Club, Dubai face one of his biggest tests yet when he meets Nicaragua’s Ricardo Blandon for the vacant WBC International Super Flyweight title, Completesports.com reports.

Lasisi who remains undefeated with a 12-0 record since moving to Dubai in 2015 as a pro fighter, has promised to extend his winning streak in the ring by beating his opponent.

The Nigerian shot into reckoning by winning the silver version of the title last December in Accra, Ghana.

“I won’t be defending my silver title on Friday”, Lasisi told Completesports.com from his training camp in Ghana last Saturday.

“I will rather be fighting on Friday for the main title which is vacant.”

Lasisi who has since landed in Dubai ahead of the fight added: “I know my opponent is quite good, but I will prove I’m better in the ring.

Aliu Lasisi (r) at a briefing heralding the fight in Dubai on Tuesday.

“I have waited for this opportunity and now it seems like my hard work is finally paying off. My initial opponent from Nicaragua got injured in training, so the fight had to be rearranged for Friday April 5, 2019. The postponement also gave me an opportunity to have extended training camp in Ghana where I prefer training for my fights.”

A win for Lasisi on Friday will surely propel his career for a shot at the main WBC Super Flyweight title presently held by Mexico’s Juan Francisco Estrada.
