Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho was not included in Elche’s matchday squad that defeated Ike Uche’s Gimnastic 1-0 in a Spanish second division league clash on Sunday reports Completesports.com.

The 20 year old currently on loan from Deportivo La Coruna has conceded ten goals in seven LaLiga 1l2l3 appearances keeping three clean sheets.

Ramon Azeez, starred for 90 minutes in Lugo’s 1-1 home draw with Extremadura on Sunday. It was his ninth league appearance and 12th across all competitions.

Azeez has made 51 appearances for Lugo since he joined two years ago scoring twice.

In Italy, Ola Aina was yellow carded in 75th minute on Sunday as Torino lost 2-0 at home to Fiorentina in a Coppa Italia clash at the Olimpico stadium.

Well well well, after a period of sturdy and at times scintillating performances, Super Eagles numbero uno Uzoho had to sit out yesterday’s match on the bench with his replacement keeping a clean sheet.

His national team mates didn’t particularly fare better with Akpeyi – who is a favourite of mine – leaking in 4 goals against Orlando Pirates last week (the first time he will be letting in more than 2 goals in any match this season) while Ezenwa contributes to enjoy inactivity-induced holiday for many months.

So, are we fans right to press the panic button about our goalkeeping department bearing in mind that Afcon 2019 is around the corner?

I still maintain that in the 3 goalkeepers; Uzoho, Ezenwa and Akpeyi, we have enough skills, capabilities, experience and application to see us through a meaningful tournament in Egypt come June.

But; and this is a big but: should the loss of the automatic number one slot in Elche continues for Uzoho, should (as predicted) Ezenwa fail to wrestle the number one slot away from his colleagues in his new club and lastly, should leaking more that 2 goals in league matches become of the norm for Akpeyi in South Africa, then Super Eagles supporters and indeed all stakeholders have the right to be concerned.

For those who watched the English premier League match yesterday between Man U and Tottenham, you will see that it wasn’t necessarily Rashford’s goal that won the match for Man U but it was David De Gea’s breathtaking saves.

We need our Goalkeepers on form and I am hoping that all 3 do what they have to do to be in tip-top form in weeks to come.
