Valencia’s Garay Admits Positive Coronavirus Status; Laliga Club Confirm Five Cases

Valencia and Argentina centre-back Ezequiel Garay has personally revealed that he has contracted Coronavirus, while the Laliga club confirmed that five persons in their fold have tested positive to the Covid-19 virus.

Garay, who underwent a surgery last month on his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament that could lay him out of action for the rest of the season, says he has started 2020 ‘badly’.

The defender announced his latest health situation on his Instagram page on Sunday and is now on isolation while receiving treatment from health authorities.

“It is clear I have started 2020 badly. I have tested positive for coronavirus but feel very well. Now it only remains to pay attention to the health authorities and, for now, be isolated,” Garay stated.

Valencia published an official statement on their website on Sunday, confirming five cases at the club but didn’t disclose names.

“Valencia CF inform that five positive cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus have been detected amongst first team staff and players. All of these persons are now at home, in good health and obeying self-isolation measures,” Valencia statement reads

“Besides providing further information over the coming hours, the club reiterate our support for the health authorities and their social awareness campaigns, and emphasise to all of the population the importance of staying at home and continuing to follow the previously published hygiene and illness-prevention measures.

Likewise, Valencia CF reiterate our confidence in the Spanish health system, and in the recommendations made by the Ministry of Health for cases of coronavirus infection such as these.

Valencia had already joined the rest of Spanish clubs in a two-week due to the outbreak of Coronavirus before before their player became the first LaLiga player to confirm contracting the Covid-19 virus.

According to reports in Spain, government is expected to announce a 15+day nationwide lockdown on Monday, March 16 as it steps up efforts to curb the spread of the disease.
