Van Den Berg Seals ‘Dream’ Liverpool Move

Sepp van den Berg says it is a ‘dream’ to join ‘the biggest club in the world’ after he completed his move to Liverpool from PEC Zwolle. The deal will be officially ratified on July 1, but the 17-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Anfield after the Reds agreed on a fee with Zwolle.

Van den Berg had entered the final year of his contract with the Dutch club and a number of teams from across Europe showed an interest in his services, but it is Liverpool that have won the race. The centre-back becomes the Reds first signing of the summer and he is certainly looking forward to getting his career started on Merseyside, while also admitting he can hardly believe he will be representing the European champions on the pitch.

“It’s just an amazing feeling. I couldn’t believe it, I thought it was a joke,” van den Berg told the Liverpool website. “I was really happy and, to be honest, I was a little bit scared at first because such a big club had interest in me. So, I was a little bit scared but eventually I was really excited.

“It is, for me, the biggest club in the world and it’s a dream come true. I am really excited. “I’ve seen what kind of players from the Academy grew into the first team here. It is unbelievable, especially when this kind of big club does that.”

The 17-year-old also confirmed that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp played a major role in his decision to move to Anfield. “Of course, the trainer [Jurgen Klopp] is a great guy and one of the reasons they are successful – and also one of the reasons I came here. “I think this is the best place for me to grow and hopefully play a lot of games here.”
