Verstappen Rules Out Red Bull Exit

Max Verstappen says he has no interest in joining either Mercedes or Ferrari and hopes to win the title with Red Bull.

Verstappen is now the leading driver at Red Bull following Daniel Ricciardo’s switch to Renault, with Pierre Gasly stepping up from sister team Toro Rosso to partner the Dutchman for the 2019 season.

Mercedes dominated yet again last year as they won both the Drivers’ and team prizes, with Lewis Hamilton claiming the Drivers’ Championship.

Ferrari came in second in the Constrictors’ Championship and Verstappen finished behind both Scuderia drivers but he did manage to edge out Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes in the Drivers’ standings as the 21-year-old came in fourth.

It remains to be seen as to whether or not Red Bull will be able to provide Verstappen with a car capable of challenging for the title in 2019 but he feels he has a better chance of battling for the top prize with the Milton Keynes-based outfit than he would partnering Hamilton at Mercedes or Sebastian Vettel at Ferrari.

“When I think of my own career, it is not convenient to sit next to Hamilton or Vettel right now,” said Verstappen, as reported by the Express. “Although I would absolutely do it if I had no other choice. “I believe that with Red Bull I can also become champion, as long as we have the right package together.”
