Wade Pens Bills Deal

Former England winger Christian Wade has signed for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills after being released by Wasps last October. The 27-year-old was released by Wasps in October to allow him to pursue his dream of an American football career and the Slough-born flyer is well on his way to realising that ambition.

Wade made two England appearances and was called up to the British and Irish Lions squad for their 2013 tour to Australia, but swapped the 15-man code for helmets and shoulder pads after training alongside NFL veterans and draft hopefuls in Florida since December.

He was one of four players allocated to an AFC East club as part of the league’s International Player Pathway programme and confessed that the news was hard to take in. “Every week that has gone by has exceeded my expectations,” he said.

“At this stage I’m speechless. “For me this is another step closer to my dream and what I set out to achieve from the start. It’s making me emotional thinking about the risk I took and the magnitude of the move.”
