Malawi captain Tabitha Chawinga has urged the Scorchers to play with courage and confidence when they take on defending champions Nigeria in their opening match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The debutants will make their first-ever appearance at the tournament when they face the Super Falcons in a Group C clash at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday night. Kick-off is scheduled for 9pm Nigeria time.
Nigeria, the record 10-time African champions, head into the encounter as overwhelming favourites, making it a classic David versus Goliath contest.

Chawinga Have No Fear For Super Falcons
Despite the daunting challenge, Chawinga believes Malawi must approach the game without fear or an inferiority complex.
“It was my dream to play in the WAFCON. The time has come. We know Nigeria’s worth,” Chawinga was quoted by CAFonline.
” They are a great nation but we must focus on ourselves. Our players need to compete without any inferiority complex.”
