Malawi head coach Lovemore Fazili says his team will be ready for their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations opening fixture against defending champions Nigeria despite the defeat to Ghana.
The Scorchers lost 4-0 to Ghana’s Black Queens in their friendly encounter at Municipal de Berrechid Stadium on Thursday.
Doris Boaduwaa netted a hat-trick for the Black Queens, while Sharon Esinam Sampson was also on target for the West Africans.
Fazil Reflects On Heavy Defeat
Fazili said despite the heavy defeat, the match helped the technical crew assess players who may be needed during the WAFCON.

“Yes, we have lost 4-0, but we were trying to give a chance to other players. We still have the team to start next week, and I am sure we have gone the right way. We now have other players who are capable of being given a chance when we start the tournament,” he told Malawi Football Federation official website.
Focus On Super Falcons Clash
Fazili expects his team to be in a better shape when the WAFCON 2026 finals kicks off.
“I am sure that when we start the tournament, the team will be in good shape and the goals will come,” Fazil added.
“We needed to see the combination of Tabitha and the team playing together. On Tuesday next week, I think we will have a first eleven that is capable of delivering.”
