Francisca Ordega has blamed inadequate preparation for the Super Falcons’ disappointing outing at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria failed to reach the semi-finals for the first time in the history of the competition after suffering a 1-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
The Super Falcons endured a difficult start to the tournament, suffering a shock 3-2 defeat to debutants Malawi.
Justine Madugu’s side recovered from the setback with impressive performances in their subsequent matches, but their campaign was eventually halted by Cameroon despite a spirited display.
Ordega Rues Poor Preparation
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Ordega admitted that Nigeria’s preparation for the tournament was not good enough.

“Of course not,” Ordega told ESPN when asked if the team had prepared adequately for the competition.
“I think it’s something we really need to talk about.
“If you’re coming for a World Cup competition or qualification, you have to prepare because everyone is coming here with the World Cup as their target.
“Moving forward, we’ll be able to do better with our preparation.”
The Super Falcons must now turn their attention to their crucial clash against South Africa in Casablanca on Thursday.
Nigeria need victory to advance to FIFA’s inter-confederation play-offs, scheduled to take place in November and December.
