Cameroon midfielder Naomi Eto has described the Indomitable Lionesses’ 1-0 victory over Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as an “ugly win.”
Myriam Nyadjou scored the decisive goal with a stunning first-half free-kick to hand Cameroon victory over Justin Madugu’s side on Sunday.
The result booked Cameroon a place in the semi-finals, where they will face Morocco on Wednesday, while Nigeria’s hopes of winning the tournament came to an end.
Cameroon also secured automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil following the victory.
Nigeria, meanwhile, will take on South Africa in a play-in clash on Thursday, with a place in the inter-confederation playoffs at stake.

Eto Talks Up Difficult Win
Reflecting on the quarter-final victory, Eto admitted that Cameroon had to withstand sustained pressure from the Super Falcons but praised her teammates for their defensive resilience.
The midfielder also expressed her delight at helping Cameroon secure a return to the Women’s World Cup.
“We can say it was an ugly win because they attacked a lot, but we were very, very strong defensively,” Eto told the BBC.
“[It has] always been a dream to play the World Cup. We have been waiting for this moment for the longest [time], and it has finally arrived.”
