Warnock Questions Decision To Bench Ighalo In United’s Europa League Defeat To Sevilla

Former Liverpoool defender Stephen Warnock has questioned the decision to leave Odion Ighalo on the bench for so long in Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final defeat to Sevilla on Sunday night.

Manchester United went down to a 2-1 defeat against the LaLiga club.

The Red Devils took the lead early in the game with Bruno Fernandes netting from the spot.

But the Spanish outfit came back into the match, first through ex-Liverpool star Suso, who swept home Sergio Reguilon’s cross.

Luuk de Jong then fired home the winning goal with few minutes left on the clock.

Ighalo was only called into action in the 92nd minute but Warnock cannot understand how Ighalo was not on the pitch earlier.

“The one who would scare me coming on is Odion Ighalo – he’s one of the best finishers I’ve seen in a long time,”Warnock was quoted by the daily star.

“I just don’t understand why he didn’t bring him on with 20 minutes to go.

“If I’m sat on that bench and I don’t come on, I’m furious.”

Exactly my thoughts watching the game.
I was like bring on Ighalo, bring on Ighalo. But there is nothing you can do when a coach has chosen to loose

Dudes you cant blame OGS, Ighalo stats at United shows no goal from sub in situation, however his goals have come when he starts.

    • What’s your point exactly? He is suppose to be the striker for Europa while martial play epl, so if the coach believe he is good as starter, then while bench him? Same shit the stupid baby face of a coach did in the 1/4. Against Copenhagen that both martial and rashford struggle to score until the late penalty that save his ass, he did same shit against a stronger Sevilla team ,the fact is igbalo bring somthing diff. And deserve to be a starter or at least first sub. Expecially when you need a goal. The coach need to tell us what we don’t know pls.

To me . OGS screwed up big time . How can he keep a striker with so much experience such as ighalo on the bench and he lives Rashford and Martial struggling . It shows how disappointing he is .

Pls if I may is Rashford or martial a striker.? Ighalo has big game experience. Only the coach can explain why he prefers newbies to experience in a match of such magnitude and experience

Ighalo finds it difficult to score while playing as a substitute because the coach usually remove players who ought to service him with good passes such as Pogba, Fernandez and Greenwood before his inclusion. I strongly believe the story would have been different if Ighalo was given more game time with best playmakers in MU.
