Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has shown support to Kylian Mbappe after the France international missed a penalty in his side’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League at Anfield.
“Mbappé has all of our support and he will soon turn the situation around,” Ancelotti said after the defeat.
“Mbappé is an extraordinary player, we must be patient. He’s doing well and adapting well. We are with him.”
Andy Robertson was adjudged to have tripped Lucas Vazquez, handing Mbappe the chance to equalise on the hour.
But the Liverpool goalkeeper read his intentions, diving to his left to palm the kick away.
Meanwhile, second half goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo secured the win for Arne Slot’s men.
Mac Allister played a neat one-two with Bradley and gave Courtois insufficient time to react by rapidly dispatching a precise finish into the far bottom corner.
An increasingly absorbing match would provide yet more drama soon after as Salah beat Ferland Mendy until the defender brought him down inside the area.
The Egyptian sent Courtois the wrong way from the spot, but his kick kissed the outside of the post and ended up in the Kop.
Ultimately that would matter little, however, as, Liverpool quickly doubled their lead anyway.
A quick corner between Jones and Robertson afforded the latter the room to deliver an inswinging cross and there was Gakpo, rising high to plant his header into the corner.
