Werder Bremen Defender Felix Agu Ready To Play For Super Eagles

Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu says he is now willing to represent Nigeria at the international level after initially turning down the offer, reports Completesports.com.

The highly rated right-back was first approached by Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr two years ago but he rejected the chance to play for the Africans.

Rohr wanted Agu, who at that time was playing for VFL Osnabruck to be part of Nigeria’s squad for the friendly against Ukraine in Kiev.

Instead the defender opted to play for the Germany U-21 side.

The 22-year-old has now decided to switch allegiance and play for the three time African champions after failing to make progress with Germany.

” I haven’t heard anything for a long time. Maybe it will come again. At that time I cancled the Nigerian Association because I wanted to go to the German U21s first. Up until then I had never been to the national team and I wanted to get used to it,”he said in an interview with deichstube.de.

” Now my time with the U21 is over. But it wasn’t a decision against Nigeria, it was a decision to keep my surroundings that are more or less familiar. Now I am open to the topic.”

Agu was born in Germany but is of Nigerian descent with his father from the West African country.

Plz we don’t need any more of these less than average players, look at the ones we have, all wack.akpoguma that rohr made all the noise in d world is now in ourteam,he is not even noticed,we need Nigerian players born at home now that are passionate about the eagles, not mercenaries.our football is dead because of all these type of players in our team that can’t perform in African terrain, look at aribo and co.enough is enough plz our best players remain those born and raised in Nigeria, osimehn, ndidi, ejuke chukwueze awaziem and co.all the oyibo players, are just there to make up the numbers, contributes nothing to the team

      Well said bro.

I’ve watched his games when he was in the bundersliga 2. What I can say is this , I have no issues with players with dual citizens coming to play for the national team. The issues have to be how genuine and how strong is what they can offer for the team . One player who I admire so much for his sincerity to play for the national team happens to be Cyriel Dessers who I believe will take the SE to great heights . I see him accomplishing amazing things provided the coach as well as the football organisation are not gonna use politics to mess things up .

Calvin Bassey impressed me and truly we need fresh legs who are willing and up to the task .

In the areas of Ekong , he’s still an integral part of the team only that he’s been making blunders . I believe he’s not met someone who can make him fight for his position . Assuming Tomori wasn’t commited to England perhaps that would have been the key.

Back to Felix Agu, he has a long road when it comes to been selected for the national team as preparations for nations cup and world cup are already in motion .

Our home based players throughout the years have been a strong force for the national team in years past . I don’t know what’s going on at the moment but we sincerely need to see this revived .

  • @Michel But Dessers is doing well and so is Ebuehi bro, Ekong and Balogun remain our 2 strongest defenders. SO bro this is like everything in life comes with good and Bad. If Michael Olise says he wants to represent Naija will you trun him down, Let us not be like white racist Europeans guys we are better than that.

@Ugo Iwunze… I would remove Ekong name if I were you. Dude is grossly average…

      @Ugo Iwunze

      Beautiful response!

No truer word has been stated.

    • Igbekun Abo 2 years ago

Well said @ Ugo. You have always been true to your principles. Much respect sir.

    • Thank you @Iwunze. So Ekong and balogun never contributed anything to us. What about rhr days of oyibo wall? Yes he has lost form now and that is the reason he should be lose his place. This is the issue I have with the rigid and clueless Rohr.

Some people just comment without looking at issues deeply. We have been helped by these players in the past.

So iwobi has not done anything for us.

So akpoguna is not doing well in his team now.

No racist comments. The more the merrier. If he wants us, let’s give him a chance. He can come to displace anyone so be it.

BUT IT IS AFTER AFCON AND WORLD CUP YOU WILL CONTEST FOR SHIRT IN SUPER EAGLE

  • Gabriel 2 years ago

He is a double face. Certainly, his allegiance will be elsewhere.

  • Igbekun Abo 2 years ago

I agree. We should only entertain switch of allegiance from dual nationality players who are passionate.
Jah bless all deserving Super Eagles players. Arribbaaa

  • Bashir Danrimi 2 years ago

Sorry Agu, we dont need you anymore, go and doing your selfishness elsewhere

  • We need quality centre backs and not full backs. There is always room for good players but right now we are stocked with left and right full backs.
If he is serious about switching to Nigeria he should fill out the necessary papers and submit them to the appropriate authority.
Then he should start playing regularly and churning out great performances for his club and he would get called up.
No automatic shirt for you because you suddenly changed your mind.
