‘Why I Was Against Okoye’s First Call-up To Super Eagles’ – Udeze

Former Nigeria international Ifeanyi Udeze has explained why he was not in support when Maduka Okoye got his first call-up to the Super Eagles.

Udeze made this known in Tuesday’s edition of his radio show ‘No Holds Barred’ on Brila FM.

According to Udeze, he kicked against the idea because Okoye was playing in the German fourth division at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

“I was against Okoye’s invitation to the Eagles back them,” the 2002 FIFA World Cup star began.

“I queried that how can a player in Division four in Germany be invited to the Eagles. But there was something Rohr saw that made him invite him.

“Now we all can see that Rohr was right after all about him.”

The 22-year-old shot stopper has since gone on to make 11 appearances for Nigeria, after making his debut in 2019 in a 1-1 draw against Brazil.

On Monday, he signed a five-and-half-year deal with Watford but will remain with Sparta Rotterdam until the end of the current season.

Udeze has shown that he is man and true to his job.Coming out to show that Rohr was right after all is a show of sportsmanship.

This is where reterds like Jimmyball and Omo9ja should learn from. But there hate and shallow mindednesnes will not allow them. What a shame.

  • That is how God will be shaming all the haters of this man.. Some of them are even saying the man is unable to profer solutions to eagles goal keeping and mildfied dept. From division 4 league to national team and now EPL all within 2 years and they call the coach clueless? You will never see them making any comment to Udeze confession now, had it been the headline is the other way round then you will see them praising Udeze to high heaven mtcheeeeew

    • @Tayo, from your comment I was able to see that your level of reasoning was low.

What majority of football loving Nigerians are complaining about is the coach technical input during matches.

2022 is already here. People like you will understand better. You are one of those people that are measuring the countries that are coming for both the nations and world cup competitions by the quality of the countries in our qualifying groups.

it’s going to be funny for Nigeria to have a coach for 7years with no cup to show. Football loving Nigerians don’t want things like that to happen. that’s why they are calling people attention to it now.

I expect the coaching crew to wake up and surprise Nigerian by winning nations cup next year and make Super Eagles reach at least quarter final.

      God bless Nigeria.

      • quarter final in the world cup.

@Godsate, you are the one with a very low IQ here, Rohr has been to only 1 Winnable Tournament (AFCON 2019) in those 5 years he’s been with SE and he won Bronze amongst 24 Participants. That’s a recognisable achievement for a team who couldn’t qualify for the previous 2 Editions of AFCON. WC 2018 surely is not winnable to us at this time.

So tell me how does he win a cup where there’s no Tournament? ALL can see an obvious improvement in our team ever since he took over, that’s why there’s so much traffic here on CSN as everyone now wants to be associated with the Brand SE which Rohr has painstakingly built over the period of 5 years at the helms.

We have never had it so good with our players churning out creditable performances in their clubs in the Top 5 leagues in Europe. Even during the 1994 Golden era majority of our stars are bench warmers in their top 5 league clubs. Today we now have players in Italy in scintillating forms, EPL now have nothing less than 7 9ja Internationals playing regularly and very integral to their respective clubs with an addition now of the very 1st Nigerian Goalkeeper to be bought by an EPL team. In Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Portugal, Turkey, Scotland etc. our boys are painting the leagues with goals and marvellous performances week in week out.

If Rohr were that clueless as you painted him, SE will not record over 50% win ratio across all games, qualifies with games to spare without use of calculators by fans, stabilise the team with good discipline and team spirits. If you think a clueless coach can achieve all these seamlessly, why was it so difficult for all your “cluefull” African Gardiolas?

Abeg give kudos where it’s due bro
