‘Why Super Eagles Will Be Different Under Peseiro’ —Musa

‘Why Super Eagles Will Be Different Under Peseiro’ —Musa

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa believes the three-time AFCON champions will be different under new head coach Jose Peseiro.

The Portuguese will take charge of his first competitive game as Eagles handler when they host Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, in their first tie in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

It was not the best of starts for the former Real Madrid assistant coach, following the Eagles’ defeats to Mexico and Ecuador in a double header friendly games.

Musa, however, is confident that with what he has seen in training and his personal interaction with the new gaffer, Nigerian fans should expect something different.

“I would say the very first time that I met him we spoke a lot,” Musa said in Wednesday’s pre-match press conference in Abuja.

“And if you have a manager that believe in your country and that he is coming to win the Nations Cup I think he knows what he saw that made him say that.

“I will ask Nigerians to still believe in the players because I know we have the best of players that can do that. So it’s left for us the players to prove him right that with what he saw we are going to deliver.

“So for me with the kind of training I saw I believe the Super Eagles will be very different from what people saw before. I think with this manager a lot of things will change.”

Musa reflected on the Eagles’ last game inside the MKO Abiola stadium which saw them lose the 2022 World Cup ticket to Ghana.

“The last game we played in Abuja was very sad for everyone especially for me it was a very tough moment, there’s nothing we can do because that’s football, in football sometimes you win or lose.

“Now we are here for the qualifier against Sierra Leone and everyone in camp is ready to make Nigeria proud once again. We know that no one care about the Eagles because of the World Cup disappointment but we just have to keep pushing and make the fans believe that the Eagles can rise again and I believe we will make Nigeria proud.”

Musa played down fears about playing without fans positing that it is something Eagles players are used to.

He said:”Playing in an empty stadium we are use to that because during COVID we played almost one-and-half year without the fans.

“Even in an empty stadium we have to give our fans what they want and win their confidence back so definitely we have to do all our best to win tomorrow.”

“And make the fans believe that the Eagles can ‘rise’ again”

    “The EAGLES can ‘FLY’ again”!!!

    NICE SPEECH my CAPTAIN…

Rise again super eagles, rise again

Let us just support them. I still have my reservations regarding Musa but we move!

  • Well said captain Musa. Continue to make uplifting statements like these to colleagues in the dressing room. The Super Eagles will surely fly again. Every player has to play their part on and off the pitch!

  • All you people supporting Musa are the problem with this country chai!!!!.. this guy must go what is this my *captain nonsense* for how long will we endure this guy. This is the problem with Nigeria. No matter what this country will always have spineless individuals who cannot see beyond there nose. A fool who is supposed to retire after World cup had we made it.. even that was too nice a treatment for a player that has lost form years ago. A country drenched in bloodshed by a northern regime killings massacre.. now they extended thier hold on our Nationl teams by marking sure a undeserving man is holding on to the Captaincy even after he whofully failed and any normal society will use this as a period or chance to overhaul the regime and find a new chapter and new captain it is not as if thier are not more deserving high quality players that deserve that armband and deserving younger players whose paths are being closed by this man continued stay in SE. But some spineless individuals have no shame to still pitty this fraud. Only God will have th final say and judge this country and the perpetrators when the time comes fans and officials alike. I swear it

Don’t mind them! Musa is not a captain – because a captain leads on the playing field, he’s a Chief Justice with a permanent place on the bench. I read an article by one of the Musa supporters, this is what he said:

“…he (Musa) is not stopping anyone from getting a look in or starting games, he (Musa) is not even a starter the past two years.”

This praise singer further added that “Musa’s presence isn’t why Samuel Chukwueze… hasn’t delivered as expected” He then went on to list names of players from Kalu to Ejuke to Dennis, stating their poor performance has nothing to do with Musa’s presence on the team.

He then praised Musa’s role in the Ghana game, “Musa came in as a substitute in the same game and showed the kind of passion, dedication, and commitment the team lacked”.

Coming in with fresh legs onto the pitch for the last 15 minutes when your exhausted colleagues have been battling for 75 minutes, and then showing ineffective running with no assists or crosses on the right flank. To then claim a better commitment, passion, and dedication for this tepid display is an insult to your teammates and an attitude unbecoming of a so-called captain.

According to his supporters, Musa should be judged by the woeful performance of his individual teammates. So we can equally say it isn’t Musa’s fault that Uzohoh could not catch Partey’s shot or Maduka the Tunisian’s shot, therefore Musa is blameless and remain in the squad.

The fact that Musa hasn’t started a game in two years is not a source of shame in their eyes but shows that he is uniquely amongst his teammates not culpable for any of the Super Eagles poor performances over the last two years.

Such is the irrelevance and ‘appeal to pity’ of this argument that we might as well say it isn’t Musa’s fault that Nigeria’s debt has ballooned from $30 billion to $80 billion so Musa should remain in the Super Eagles squad.

Other supporters of Musa, claim that coaches have not been selecting him and are partial to Chukwueze. This is a lie, Musa has such tremendous political weight (at least from Nigerian coaches) that if he told Eguavoen to frog jump, Eguavoen would not only obey but ask how many times!!

Why did he not turn up for the friendly matches in the US? He would have had the opportunity to start and show his mettle on the pitch. Instead, because established players like Osimhen backed out, he too declined to play – after all in his mind he’s senior man, as if he was a starting player.

The Super Eagles are now Musa’s restroom, his on-field inaction is a source of blamelessness. Praise singers jump to defend him, his colleagues including coaches and journalists are afraid to say truth to power. No be juju be dat!!

  • What more will it take for spineless people to band together and remove Injustice from this country. From politics point of view Bloodshed in Ondo. Youth killings. Deborah Emmanuel yet people will still after a 2 weeks hail the devils. From a sport sense missing out on the world cup at the hands of our biggest rivals(Ghana) behind Cameroon.yet some blind fools will still open their mouth and hail a fraud. I mean if Nigerians can forgive and look sideways from a government that is shoving injustice down our throat what more football. What is football after all. I pitty this country called Nigeria

In my opinion Nigerian slums are worst than what you posted on here,we are hungrier with vast population suffering from abject penury.
I won’t be a hypocrite,to hide the obvious just to win a bragging right of which is better between Nigeria and Ghana, with a smaller population Ghana has better chances of turning things around than a vast population of Nigerians led by greedy evil politicians that makes scary, absurd, pull us down decisions for example our sports minister Sunday Dare and his fellow clueless government executives!

BY AHMED MUSA SHOULD HAVE RETIRED FROM SUPER EAGLE. BECAUSE
** He is SURPLUS TO REQUIREMENT
** He is creating SHORT-ONE to the team
** He is blocking the chances of other players that suppose to shine
IN 2002 world cup, what is the impact of MUTIU ADEPOJU to the team? ANSWER=FAILURE & SURPLUS TO REQUIREMENT
IN 2010 W/CUP, what is the impact of KANU to the team? ANSWER=SURPLUS TO REQUIREMENT & FAILURE.
DON’T LET BE DECIEVING OURSELVES ABOUT EXPERIENCE, IF YOU ARE OLD, YOU ARE OLD.

  • Greenturf 2 years ago

Musa’s continual presence in the super eagles is worrying.I would understand if he’s playing for a decent European club and having a good shift for both club and country but he’s not doing any of this so why does he gets the nod ahead of younger and better talents beats my imagination.
There’s of course more to it than meets the eyes.
Normally, after failure to qualify for Qatar you expect a leader to call it a day and let someone younger and better to take over the mantle of leadership to lead a new super eagles, but Musa just like our greedy politicians cling on to power even when there’s no clear vision,no legs to run anymore,no skills no power what exactly is Musa bringing to the super eagles?Absolutely nothing!I’m afraid,he has only succeeded in taking the place of a potential younger prospect and has also succeeded in losing most of his fans I know a few people still support him that’s the Nigeria we live in if bad politicians will get votes to stay in power it says a lot about the people, same people who will end up worse than they were it’s a shame.

      LMFAO!

Did your PINICK and DARE call it a day after FAILURE to QUALIFY for QATAR?

We even had to force ‘YOUR OWN’ EGUAVOEN to RESIGN if not HE would still be here…

      LMFAO!!

OGA focus all your ENERGY on BEATING SIERRA LEON..

And leave MUSA out of it..MUSA is not the PROBLEM and has never been…

That’s my problem with you GUYS…

We should bring back John Obi Mikel and John Ogu after all they are still active and are not the problem of super eagles.

And then the LATER would now go on to SHOCK the WORLD at 38..

        • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

Musa you’re becoming a distraction to the team, just go and enjoy ur wives. In normal society u should be using ur influence to educate ur worthless Islamic brothers from  the north the importance of life. U should be teaching ur fellow Islamists to stop killing and terrorizing innocent souls. Leave the eagles alone, stick to ur true calling.
