Winks To Return For Spurs’ Stadium Opener

Harry Winks is set to return to the Tottenham squad as they start life at their new stadium against Crystal Palace on Wednesday. The England international midfielder has not been involved since February, having been sidelined because of a groin injury, while Spurs have not won a game without him, losing four and drawing one of their last five.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino expects to have Winks on the pitch at some point in the game against Roy Hodgson’s Eagles. He said: “He is going to be involved maybe on the bench. He’s in the squad.” Eric Dier will again be absent due to a hip complaint, while Serge Aurier and Eric Lamela also miss out.

All the talk ahead of the game is the fact Spurs are ending a near two-year wait to finally play in their impressive new 60,000-seater stadium. But Pochettino has urged his players to ensure they stop the rot with three points to ensure they finish in the top four and have Champions League football on the agenda next season.

He said: “The new stadium is a reality. It’s an exciting moment in the history of the club. Everyone is going to realise the magnitude of the project. “The best stadium in the world must play in the Champions League. “It will be a shame not to be in the next Champions League. We are going to fight. I have no doubt we will be the Champions League next season.”
