Navidi Set For World Cup Return

Josh Navidi is expected to be ready for Wales’ World Cup training camps despite it being confirmed his season is over.

The flanker returned for Cardiff against the Scarlets on March 22 but suffered an elbow injury in the early stages of the 41-17 win.

A medical assessment determined he required surgery to correct the problem and he has since gone under the knife.

Inevitably, in a World Cup year, there were fears he could miss out on Japan 2019 but Blues head coach John Mulvihill says he fully expects the 28-year-old to be back in time to be part of Warren Gatland’s preparations.

Mulvihill said: “Josh dislocated his elbow in a bit of friendly fire, which was unfortunate.

He’s had surgery and will be right to go for the World Cup camps. “He’ll be out for up to three months but will be able to return to running fairly early in the rehab process, and maintain his conditioning under the guidance of our first-class medical and strength and conditioning teams. “He will be refreshed, which will be really good for him going into the camp.”
