Wolff Slams Rule Changes

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff feels “embarrassing” rule changes have been made to Formula 1 to try and prevent his team dominating.

The F1 authorities have introduced aerodynamic alterations to the front and rear wing of cars for the 2019 season and Wolff believes the aim is to level the playing field for the other teams.

Mercedes have been the dominant force in the sport for some time, winning the past five constructors’ titles – and they are tipped to make it six in a row this year.

Lewis Hamilton is also the favourite to win a sixth drivers’ crown and Wolff has pulled no punches in his assessment of what the powers-that-be are trying to do.

“The air is becoming thinner. When a team dominates, the rules are always changed to damage this team. It can be called almost embarrassing,” he told Motorsport-Total.com.

“With the aerodynamic rule change for 2019, they try to change the ranking in Formula 1. We have seen this in the past with Ferrari and, of course, with Red Bull. We must remain motivated and set the right goals.”
