Wolfsburg Third Captain Arnold Mouths Fight Strategies Ahead Frankfurt Clash

He has been playing for VfL Wolfsburg for more than 10 years, amassing 267 appearances so far. In fact, no other current Wolfsburg player boasts as many appearances for the club as Maximilian Arnold.

Bundesliga.com caught up with the 26-year-old Wolves midfielder and third captain to ask him as they get set to host Eintracht Frankfurt in Saturday’s Bundesliga matchday 29 clash.

Will it be the mentally strongest teams during this period who prove to be the biggest winners?

“Yes, definitely. Now, mentally, you have to programme your mind in such a way that on Saturday at 3:30 when the game starts you’re switched on. Then for 90 or 95 minutes, no matter what’s going on around you, you have to put that out of your mind. It’s a game and it’s about three points and you have to give it your all to achieve that. I think the teams that can do that best, will pick up the most points.”

What factors make you a good leader on the pitch?

“I think on the pitch you have to set a good example and have a good presence. You feel a bit inhibited at first
because you understand every word. But you have to shake off this timidity so that you can play with freedom and approach in such a way that you are 100% there. I just try to convey that.”

How can Wolfsburg keep improving?

“I think in many ways. I think we drew too many games, we also had some unnecessary defeats. I think
when we’re a bit more resolute at the back and up front, then we can improve.”
