Women’s WAFU Cup: Kanu Delights In WOTM Award In Falcons Win Vs Burkina Faso

Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu is determined to keep getting better after she was awarded the woman of the match award in the team’s 5-1 demolition of Burkina Faso in their opening Group B game of the 2019 Women’s WAFU Cup of Nations in Abidjan on Thursday, reports Completesports.com.

Kanu was the star of the show for the Super Falcons in the encounter played at the Stade Du Parc Des Sports, Abidjan as her hat-trick helped the Super Falcons start the competition on a positive note.

Kanu scored one in the first half and extra two goals after the break.

Captain of the team Evelyn Nwabuoku and Amarachi Okoronkwo got the goals for the Nigerian ladies, both scoring from the penalty spot.

Charlotte Milligo scored the consolation goal for Burkina Faso late in the game.

“It makes me feel excited and confident in myself knowing that I can do it, it doesn’t matter if I start the match or not, this will encourage me to put in extra work,” Kanu told reporters after the game.

Kanu, who is one of the new faces in Super Falcons squad also believes she can earn a spot in the squad to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup if she can maintain this level of performance.

“I will continue to work hard to make the team, the list is not out, so I’m sure I will put in my best to be able to make the team going to the World Cup. I have a lot of work to do if I want to make it to France,” she stated.

Nigeria will be up against Niger Republic on Saturday at 4.30pm Nigeria time in their second Group B match.

The Super Falcons are placed second in Group B albeit on goal difference behind Mali who pummelled Niger 12-0 in the other Group B game also on Thursday.
