Wood Puts Emphasis On Bluebirds For Relegation Showdown

Chris Wood believes Saturday’s relegation six-pointer between Cardiff and Burnley is a much bigger game for the Bluebirds.

The Clarets welcome Neil Warnock’s men to Turf Moor this weekend for an encounter that could go a long way to deciding both club’s Premier League fates.

Cardiff currently find themselves in the relegation zone, five points from safety, while they are eight points behind Sean Dyche’s men following their back-to-back wins over Wolves and Bournemouth.

A third successive victory would see Burnley move past the 40-point threshold which is normally enough to guarantee safety in the Premier League.

With the Lancashire outfit still to play Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton and Arsenal, getting to 40 points this weekend would be a massive weight off everyone’s minds at Turf Moor.

However, given Cardiff’s current situation, Wood feels Saturday’s game is a must-win one for the visitors, with Burnley having built up a buffer between themselves and the bottom three.

The New Zealander told the Burnley Express: “The Cardiff game is another game, we’ve taken points off the big four before, and if we have to do it again, I’m sure we will be able to. “At the end of the day, it’s just another game, it’s bigger for them, I guess, than us, because we’ve got the cushion, and as long as we do our job right, it’s another step forward. “We just take it game by game, if we win at the weekend, it puts us a step closer, if we get a point it’s another step closer.

It’s about keep taking those steps forward.”
