Germany forward Kai Havertz and Sweden midfielder Yasin Ayari have joined United States striker Folarin Balogun at the summit of the adidas Golden Boot race, awarded to the tournament’s leading scorer at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Balogun was the first player to register a brace at the ongoing tournament being staged across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The 25-year-old struck twice in the first half of USA’s 4-1 win over Paraguay in their opening Group D encounter at Los Angeles Stadium.

Balogun Makes History With USA
The forward made history by becoming the first US player since 1930 to net two goals in a World Cup match.
Arsenal forward Havertz then bagged a brace as Germany began their Group E campaign in emphatic fashion, hammering World Cup newcomers Curaçao 7-1 in Houston on Sunday night.
Ayari scored a superb brace in Sweden’s 5-1 victory over Tunisia later the same day.
With several of the 48 participating nations yet to play, the standings are expected to undergo significant changes in the days and weeks ahead.
