The goals dried up during Friday’s action in the 1xCup 2026 qualifiers as four matches produced three narrow victories and a dramatic penalty-shootout win, with Joy Cometh FC recording the biggest victory of the day.
A total of six goals were scored in four matches at the Inspire Sports Ground, Cappa, Oshodi, Lagos, averaging a miserly 1.5 per game, a far cry from previous match-days.
Eagle Star FC 1-3 Joy Cometh FC
For Joy Cometh FC, their convincing 3-1 victory over Eagle Star FC is a continuation of their impressive campaign in the grassroots football competition.
Joy Cometh made a fast start and established a commanding 3-0 lead within the opening 13 minutes of the encounter, leaving Eagle Star with a mountain to climb.
Forward Nosiru Moshood Olarewaju opened the scoring for Joy Cometh as early as the third minute, Adeleke Samuel made it 2-0 in the ninth minute while Olaniran Mubarak Olasunkanmi made it 3-0 only four minutes later.
Eagle Star eventually pulled one goal back in the 35th minute through Ime Jackson Obuku courtesy of an assist from Lateef Otakomaya but Joy Cometh held firm to secure all three points.
Edunz Int FC 0-1 BYT Academical FC
In Friday’s second game, BYT Academical FC snatched a 1-0 victory over Edunz International FC in a closely fought contest.
The solitary goal which came in the 37th minute courtesy of Yekeen Muideen proved enough to separate the two teams, as BYT Academical demonstrated the defensive discipline required to protect a narrow lead.
The win keeps BYT Academical among the leading sides in their group, with the latest standings showing the team on six points from two matches and a strong goal difference.

WillyJoe-17 FA 0-0 AUX FC (AUX win 5-3 on penalties)
The most dramatic encounter of the day was the third match between WillyJoe-17 FA and AUX FC, with neither side able to break the deadlock even after 60 minutes of regulation time.
With the game ending 0-0, the tie went to penalties but AUX FC held their nerve to prevail 5-3, earning a hard-fought victory after a tense shootout.
Roro House 0-1 JP Young Stars FC
The final game of the day saw JP Young Stars FC produce another disciplined performance, edging Roro House 1-0.
It was a match decided by the finest of margins, but JP Young Stars did enough to claim the points and make a positive start to their campaign.
The goal that decided the fixture did not arrive until the second half through Alfred Isaac Emamoke with the defender finding the back of the net in the 37th minute.
