Flying Eagles of Nigeria will face Côte d’Ivoire in the semi-finals of the 2022 U-20 WAFU Zone B tournament in Niger Republic, Completesports.com reports.
The semi-final pairing was confirmed after the Flying Eagles were confirmed as Group B winners.
The Ladan Bosso-led team finished top in the group after Burkina Faso beat defending champions of the WAFU Zone B Black Satellites of Ghana 2-1 on Saturday.

At the 2020 WAFU Zone B tournament in Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire scored a late goal to force the Flying Eagles to a 1-1 draw.
The Ivorians advanced to the semi-finals alongside Ghana while the Flying Eagles crashed out at the group stage.
Meanwhile, the semi-finals fixture between the Flying Eagles and Côte d’Ivoire is billed for Tuesday, 17 May.
The other last four tie will see Benin Republic take on Burkina Faso.
The two teams that progress to the final will automatically qualify for the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt which will run from 18 February to 12 March.
Also, the top four teams from the U-20 AFCON in Egypt will qualify to the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
The Flying Eagles are the most successful team when it comes to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations with seven titles.
Their last triumph in the age-grade tournament was at the 2015 edition in Senegal under the guidance of Manu Garba.
Other editions which the Flying Eagles have won include 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005 and 2011.
From 1979 until 1989, the African representatives at the FIFA U-20 World Cup were determined purely on a home and away qualifying basis without a final tournament, with the African champions determined through the same qualification.
Since 1991 there has been a qualifying stage followed by a final tournament played by 8 teams in a chosen country.
On 6 August 2015, the CAF Executive Committee decided to change the name of the tournament from the African Youth Championship to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, similar to the senior’s version, Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria Compounds Ghana’s Woes
In what is probably a precursor of what awaits the Blackened Stars of Ghana at the World Cup in Qatar later in the year, their witless younger brothers the satellites, have been ignominiously dumped out of the Under 20 Wafu Cup without winning a single match.
Let that sink in: this is the lowest level of Under-20 football that Ghana failed in, a team that is not alien to failure.
It is going to be a tough year for Ghana fans and next year is not set to get better. And this is in no small part due to the misery brought on them by Nigeria.
How, you ask?
You see, in just a few months, Nigeria has been responsible for dumping Ghana out of, wait for it, 4, yes I mean 4 major tournaments.
Almost hot on the heels of the fabulous Super Falcons of Nigeria dusting Ghana out of this year’s Wafcon and next year’s women’s world cup, the Flying Eagles have just compounded their woes by dumping one-time one-hit-wonder fluke Under-20 world cup champions out of both the Under 20 Afcon and the Under-20 world cup next year.
Little wonder Ghana fans are sick to the stomach about Nigeria. I would be too! If a country brings me such misery, then I will rejoice at the slightest fluke result we manage to use archaic rules to squeeze out of them.
Which is why Ghana’s fans will never get over thier fluke fettish inspired away-goals aided world cup qualification triumph over Nigeria.
But Nigeria fans will have the last laugh without a shadow of doubt. This is because, long after the Blackened Stars have humiliated themselves and Africa in Qatar, the distinguished Super Falcons of Nigeria will go on to do Africa proud in the high profile women’s world cup next year. That will come after Nigeria has (hopefully) participated at the Under-20 Afcon and probably preparing for the Under-20 World Cup. Though we still have to navigate a tricky semi-final against a well organised outfit, dumping Ghana out of the group stages without so much of a wave goodbye will be seeing as consolation to Nigeria fans should the Flying Eagles falter against Ivory Coast.
Still, there’s the women’s Afcon that Nigeria would at least have won bronze or silver (while the Black Queens with no subjects to reign over continue to lick their wounds at in Kumasi).
The smokescreen will soon come off Ghanaian football to reveal national teams in utter shambles.
The Nigerian Flying Eagles dumped them out of 2 tournaments fair and square just as the Super Falcons hung their women out to dry before spitting them out of the greatest continental and world women’s football fiestas. These is no hiding the obvious: Ghana has suffered immensely in the hands of ruthless Nigeria this year.
When next the Super Eagles meet the Charcoal Stars, there will be no away goals rule for them to run to. Let’s face it: Nigeria has the better players. If Taiwo Awoniyi had stayed at Liverpool, then Nigeria would have had a hattrick of representation in all the 3 cadres of Europe’s elite continental competitions with Ghana nowhere in sight. Such is the decadence that has descended on their football.
And with the conveyor belt of youth football producing players that are tossing Ghana overboard in the low profile yet hugely significant WAFU B competition, Nigeria’s dominance over Ghana is set to continue for the foreseeable future.
As the Super Eagles march towards restoration and recovery in the coming months, Ghana is moving towards the abyss. Their women’s football is in tatters and their Under-20 is a national embarrassment and a disgrace and they continue to produce subpar players.
All is left now for the Blackened Stars to crash out of Qatar 2022 in disgraceful circumstances then their whole rotten edifice will be revealed before crashing down like a pack of cards.
