2022 WCQ: Cape Verde To Host Super Eagles Without Home Fans

The Super Eagles’ second Group C 2022 World Cup qualifier away to Cape Verde will be played without the home fans due to the coronavirus.

Cape Verde is one of the West African countries badly affected by Covid-19.

And in adherence to FIFA’s Covid-19 protocols, fans will not be allowed into the Adérito Sena Municipal Stadium, in Mindelo, venue of the game.

According to a report by Noticia do Norte, the Cape Verdean Football Federation FCF received a communication from CAF, stating that they would have to face the Eagles without fans in their second group stage game.

Cape Verde will hope to record their first win of the qualifiers after holding Central African Republic to a 1-1 draw in their first game.

On their part, the Eagles kicked off with a 2-0 win against Liberia at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Friday.

A first half brace from Kelechi Iheanacho secured the win for the three-time African champions.

This is the first time the Eagles will take on Cape Verde in a competitive game.

Their first and only meeting was a friendly game in 2013 which ended in a goalless draw.

  • We must play them high up the pitch and make life difficult for them……we must use the pace of our players (osimhen moffi Kalu zaidu Simon) to torment them…..we must be very aggressive from the start and match them physically especially in midfield…..All these together with their fans not been present in the stadium will make it look like a match played on neutral ground.

It seems you are alluding to High-Pressure Soccer, otherwise known as gragra football in the Naija parlance. Has Rohr been instructing his wads on this strategy, which to my best knowledge has been perfected of late by Algeria? Won’t the SE lapse into a deep coma after scoring as they did against SL?

  • Likely starting eleven:

    MADUEKE

    AINA. AWAZIEM. OMERUAH. COLLINS

    SHEHU. BONKE.

    CHIDERA/KALU

    SIMON. OSIMHEN. ONYEKURU

The super eagles will lose their height advantage as most of the taller players wont be available. Osimhen will have to do most of the work up front in terms of getting the goals. I hope the midfield can hold together, thats my main concern.
