2022 WCQ: Ex-Ghana Coach Appiah Gives Tips On How Black Stars Can Overcome Nigeria

Former Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah has given tips on how the Black Stars can get the better of fierce rivals Nigeria, in the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs.

Ghana will welcome the Super Eagles in the first leg of the qualifiers on Friday, March 25 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Appiah, who led the Black Stars to the 2014 World Cup after thrashing Egypt in the playoff 6-1 at the same venue, stated what should be done for qualification to be achieved.

“It is about Ghana and I will entreat all and sundry to rally behind the Black Stars against Nigeria for us to win,” Appiah was quoted on footballghana.com.

“It is not going to an easy game but I believe if we support the team whole heartedly, we will be victorious,” he added.

Appiah was also the captain of the Black Stars when Ghana beat Nigeria 1-0 at the Baba Yara stadium during the qualifiers for the 1992 AFCON 31 years ago, the last time the two teams met in Kumasi.

While Black Stars are targeting a fourth World Cup appearance, the Eagles are eyeing a seventh appearance.

We’ve attended MORE World Cups; but they’ve gone DEEPER than us in the competition with fewer attendances (remember SA 2010?)……these Black Stars shouldn’t be trifled with, you need to be on your A+ game to overcome them after both legs oh!!

The most successful Africa country at the wc is Ghana

      Second round in 2006

Fastest goal at the wc 2006

      Quater finalists at 2010

The highest African player to score the most goals in the wc is of course ASAMOAH GYAN!!

Our match against Germany in 2014 was adjudged as the best match in Brazil

Nigeria after 6 appearance has zero awards and can’t even get out of the group stages!!

Nigeria is weak and Ghana will always be the PACESETTERS and the only BLACK STAR OF THE BLACK RACE

Naija is the giant with a CLAY FEET haha

We ll throw everything at u comes 25th ay baba yara and I can bet anyone here that Nigeria isn’t come home even with a draw!!

Ghana will show these boasting Nigerians that Ghana is the true giant of African football

Don’t say that bro @Selfmade, be calming down, we were basically the most-entertaining of all teams with beautiful football at our debut appearance in the States (’94)! Plus, we reached our highest-ever FIFA rank within that same period, I doubt if Ghana have ever reached the Top Five of any FIFA ranking in its existence as a soccer team…..so be calming down small-small whilst you reel out your modest achievements, we see you too

Am not too surprised with your comment bcos your name SAYS alot about u (SELFMADE KING)
You are a cow! Go back to records and check Nigeria performance at the past fifa World cups, especially 1994 in USA when we lost to Italy in the second round. Nigeria was the second best team in the tournament. Where was Ghana when Nigeria was making Africans proud at the past fifa World Cups?
You better watch your mouth and do your findings very well before coming online to chat shit.

    Classic Nigeria vs Ghana Matches

The match was a World Cup Final and the venue was Japan. There was fear in the atmosphere and as the game began
Oruma headed in for Nigeria’s first goal as early as the third Minute. The goal distabilised th Ghanaian team
parading some of her finest players at that age-grade competition. There was tension as expected as the game wore
on. Towards the end of the match came a tantalising goal for Nigeria by Peter Anosike and you can imagine the
celebration where we watched the match. The Ghanaian scored a consolatory headed goal via Joseph Fameye (I doubted
his Ghanaian origin) but with a market named Makola Market in Accra, I surely believe he was a naturalized Nigeria.

With Osei Kuffour and the retinue of stars available for the Ghanaian team, Nigeria defeated them and they cried.
Oruma, Kanu, Babayaro, Manga, Peter Anosike and that generation of bold Eaglets, I salute.

If the Eagles can just be as bold and take risks like the Oruma GOAL, we will be in Qatar. Oruma, you are healed in Jesus name.

Everyone is talking now, since Ndidi has chicken out all Ghanaians are talking tough.

Ghana is in trouble oooo, Ighalo finished tonight’s match with a bang. Hat-trick scored tonight by Odion Ighalo. I am waiting for all those Ghana mouth makers, You all dumb ass with no level.

  • The funny thing about all this Ghanaian fans is that they show too much Faith in a team that was beaten by Commoros, only drew with Gabon and lost the other finished their group stage bottom with 1 points, Nigeria’s Afcon campaign is even better than Ghana’s and we (Nigerians) didn’t drag like this just because the game is to be played at a certain stadium you believe you will win. With Nigeria 34 in the world you guys are 61 in the world almost 30 places behind us. Even to me DR congo is a. Better opponent than you guys. You are left without your captain, his brother with 1 goals in 24 matches is your best striker.
Ghana best performing players are Thomas partey who by the way is still an average player and not yet a world class. Even Ndidi that has been leading the most tackles in Europe top five leagues for three seasons (excluding this season) is still regarded as an average player. Your number two player is a player who plays at st.pauli in the second teir if Germany and sulemani that’s all. So I don’t get where you guys got your confidence from

All these may mean nothing when it’s a football match involving us and Ghana. Ghana will prefer to lose to the likes of Comoros Island, Seychelles, Reunion or even Cambodia to losing to Nigeria. That’s when their dormant adrenalin kicks in. They want to fight for every ball, cover every blade of the grass, and tear tbe heavens down as long as it is Nigeria. Nigeria entering Kumasi is like a poisonous snake entering their room. The reaction will surely be different compated to if it is a cockroach or rat sneaking into their abode. But we are Nigeria; no shaking. We have conqurerd the weirdest of teams in their backyard before. Ghana won’t be an exception. Let’s go guys.

    • You are very funny, why are you using star players as an option? Where was Manchester united Star players even including world Best player Ronaldo, when they were defeated by Mancity? Pray to God that he will give you one goal .. the best team in world cup in Africa is GHANA, so where was 9ja by then? Do you know the team which is going to Play with you in Kumasi? Just Express your views but don’t make a point ☝️ because is football ⚽ which game and the table can turn at any time during experiences.
