“Perfect way to start the qualifiers especially at home and in front of our fans,” Okoye said in an interview with the team’s media officer Babafemi Raji.

” I’m very happy the team performed very well under the difficult conditions, we showed our qualities and on top of a clean sheet makes it even better.

“Going into the game I planned to keep a clean sheet. The most important thing is the three points after that the clean sheet because when you don’t concede a goal you already have one point saved.”

The Sparta Rotterdam shot-stopper expressed confidence that the Eagles will do well going into the second game away to Cape Verde.

He said:”I think it’s going to be a very good game against a very good opponent. We don’t know what to expect and also the pitch but we still have few days to prepare and I’m very sure that we will do well as a team.”

On his teammates who will not be travelling to Cape Verde:”We will miss the players who will not travel to Cape Verde but we have a big team and every player can do the same thing and I can’t wait to be back on the pitch again.”
