2023 AFCONQ: Osayi-Samuel Relishes Win Against Guinea-Bissau, Thrilled To Play For Super Eagles

Bright Osayi-Samuel says it was important for the Super Eagles to beat the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in Monday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture.

The Super Eagles avenged their earlier defeat to Baciro Cande’s men coming out 1-0 winners.

Moses Simon scored the winning goal from the spot on the half hour mark.

“I think it was an amazing feeling coming back with a win especially when they beat us at home in Abuja,”Osayi-Samuel told NFF TV.

“For us as a team we really want to comeback with a win. It will give us the confidence to face the other games and qualify for the AFCON.*

The Fenerbahce defender played a crucial role in Super Eagles’ only goal of the game.

The right-back was upended inside the box on 29 minutes with Moses Simon slotting home the penalty.

“When I got the ball I saw there was space and move into the box. In our trainings the coach always want me to attack and defend as well,”added Osayi-Samuel.

“When I had the ball, I saw it as an opportunity for me to attack. My initial plan was to dribble past the defender but he brought me down.

“Like I said I tried to give my best to the team and I’m happy that we won.”

The 25-year-old made his third appearance for the Super Eagles against the Djurtus.

Osayi-Samuel stated he is enjoying his adventure with the three-time African champions.

“I feel comfortable in the team, even right from the first camp in Portugal. I feel like I have been here for so long already. The players here have been friendly,”Osayi-Samuel declared.

“I’m happy to play for my country. The fans should keep believing in us, the more we play together, the better for us.”

OLA AINA will not like this at all!

    • Baba 1 year ago

Why not? Is right full back Ola Aina’s father’s office?

    • Femi 1 year ago

This should be zaidu concern as that dude have not impress me a bit, aina can play LB better than zaidu.

    • Nweke Uchenna 1 year ago

It is only good for the team. Aina is a top class player who can operate on both side of the full backs. If he is full fit, he will start ahead of the new guy. Don’t forget he plays in a stronger league than the new guy.

  • God bless you my guy.

Thanks for your passion and commitment.

Ola aina is a very Special player on his own, he is a baller he can play many wings for nigeria, left back, rightback likewise upfront he can also play in the midfield!
Another player i feel is been highly underated and disregarded is semi ajayi, i am yet to found any fault in that guy as a defender, the guy is too complete i dont know if chelsea is blind, the guy is physicaly and tecknicaly gifted truth been said he is the gentle giant of our present deffence i watched him in afcon too he is a class and deserve to be in chelsea or man united i consider him better than tomori, adaribioyo tunarigha etc

After the first leg I lost hope..Out of all the budding young talents we have out there….This man decided to field players from Latvia and Malta. We deserve this.

You are so right darling Football Fanatic. Xxx Salisu Yusuf has failed. He should be sacked at once. Love you. Xxx

  • Can’t believe the kind of players he invited anyway if they later sack pessiro he will be the new Coach foolish country

  • agbo chimezie 1 year ago

Winning them at Morocco means that no excuse will be accepted, good pitch with bunch of useless players he invited,am surprised reading in this platform seeing one useless writer clamouring for the invitation of omojesu to super eagles,No Nigeria will succeed coaching super eagles pessiro is far better than all we have, imagine the kind invitation your own under 23 coach invited, tomorrow some useless fans will want local coach to coach Nigeria, any day they employ a Nigerian coach that will be the day I will lose interest in watching Nigeria football

Dude invited a player from Azerbaijan and Newham athletics a non league club in the UK. This man is a bribe taking criminal coach. A leopard never changes it’s spot…

Nothing stops the NFF from making use of the FIFA window to put a killer Squad together drawing from the pool of talents available to us at this level across Europe. Those clubs have no right to hold on to our players if we send their invites on time. Players like Boniface, Orban, Marcus, Yira Sor, soome Nigerian players in the English Championship and selected outstanding players from the u20 team like Bamaiyi, Fredrick, Agbalaka, Jonathan, Ibeji,Lawal, Ohaka Anagbaiso would have got the job done. But we ignored these seasoned foreign based players with good European football experience and brought the contigent from the u20 team to the Super Eagles instead where they didn’t get a single minute. That is the stupidity and lack of organization we are talking about. So what do you expect? Salisu Yusuf filled the northern quota in the set up of the national teams handling the home-based eagles and the Olympic eagles and failed in all. He will still return to the Super Eagles to what only NFF can explain. Until we do away with sentimenr, corruption and nepotism in this country, we will continue to struggle internationally.

The NFF Chairman should know that he’s failing already and setting up what history will remember him for. He should continue.

Well said @papafem, verry disorganised shameless set of morons, can you imagine the shame to Nigeria to lost out of the olympics, from this verry early stage. Me i personaly value the olympics more than the afcon, its a turnament almost similar to the worldcup and nigeria have done well in previous turnaments how can Nff play with such qualification! What else is their priority. We have players everywhere in form players even in the local league this man could not give us victory, he sent many good players away because of bribe

  • Papafem 1 year ago

@Collin id, from the word go, it’s evidently clear that there is no political will from the decision makers for this team to qualify for the Olympics, just like it was with CHAN. Reason they appointed a serial failure to handle the team and even retained him after failing to secure a CHAN ticket. If not, how on earth will they approve that stupid list by Salisu containing players from div 4, div 5 players in countries like Azerbaijan and Malta when there are players he could easily call from the u20, Jupiter League in Belgium and English Championship. What exactly is this man still doing in the national teams after his monumental failures in u20, u23 and the CHAN Eagles? Why have things gone this bad with us, for crying out loud?

Siasia is serving a long term ban by FIFA for not reporting a bribery case attempt by a God-forsaken Singaporean. Yusuf was caught red-handed by a secret Ghanaian investigative journalist. Our Kano man served a year ban and came back to hold three different offices in the Nigerian football system as an u23, CHAN and Assitant Super Eagjes coach! With a country of 200 million + population, will the NFF tell us that Salisu Yusuf is the only qualified coach for these jobs? Why is it so difficult for them to boot this guy out? It seems to me that his grip over the decision makers in the NFF is like the rein of a horse. Posterity will judge this people toyimg with the emotions Nigerian fans and the careers of good Nigerian players out there.

When is Salisu Yusuf and his team going to come back from Morocco after the 2:0 defeat to Guinea? These guys need a hero welcome for shaming Nigerians as expected. We have been waiting at the airport to receive them but couldn’t see a lookalike.

  • ADEYEMI 1 year ago

Don’t be surprised to see Salisu Yusuf’s name as Director of Sport very soon

  • The first achievement of NFF has been outline and recorded by FIFA in his monthly football ranking on soccernet.ng where Nigerian Super Eagles has dropped two steps. Nigerian is now ranked sixty in the world and seventh in Africa. Thanks to NFF President and his board for this first notable achievement coutesy the Coach Peseiro appointment as a coach with his dubious selection and bad tactics. NFF should know that this isn’t a good start to their tenure and should do something about our mediocre coach who does not seem to know what he is doing especially on selection of players to national team. I pray it will not be too late for the NFF President to take drastic action to avoid a situation similar to Chelsea fc appointment of Grand Potter and has led the team to relegation zone (11th position on the PL table). Please, take positive action. We are waiting and keeping our fingers crossed. God bless Nigeria.
