Israel came from behind to defeat five-time champions Brazil 3-2 in their 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup quarter-final tie on Saturday night.
Israel will now play the USA-Uruguay winners in La Plata.
Marcos Leonardo’s excellent strike with his weaker left foot put Brazil ahead at the start of the second, but Anan Khalaili equalised with the header of this tournament.

Extra time held more drama and goals than the 90 minutes.
Andrey Santos’s exquisite flick set up Matheus Nascimento to restore Brazil’s lead, but Hamza Shibli turned a cross in at the back post immediately to level things up again.
The decisive moment came at the end of the first half of extra time when Dos Turgeman dribbled through Brazil’s defense before unleashing an unstoppable curler past Kaique.
An incredible second period of extra time saw Israel failed to score from the penalty spot twice, but Ofir Haim’s side were able to hold on and complete an historic victory.

This cup is for Nigeria! They should be resolute and win it for Africa
Nigeria can win it!
I had dream seeing NIGERIAN parading the trophy in abuja
I also had a nightmare that Ghana defeated Nigeria in the Under 20 Wafu Cup final tonight on penalties.
Tell me it didn’t happen:(
It did bro! For the first time ghana really done well against NIGERIAN ladies!
Sorry my bro DEO
🙁
Selfie, I watched the match and I was bitterly disappointed in our ladies. Kudos to the young Ghanian ladies. The ganged up on our girls, suffocating them and denying them oxygen to express themselves.
All the big name world cup participating girls we have – Flourish Sebastian, Alani, Esther Oyenedize Taiwo Afolabi and particularly Opeyemi Ajakaiye – were rendered ineffective by Ghana.
Ajakaiye had to be yanked off after her Ghanian marker left her toothless in front of goal.
It was painful to watch.
Yet again coach Chris Danjuma has let me down big time when it mattered the most. His approach was effectively neutralised by his Ghanian counterpart leaving him looking clueless. He also failed to ginger his girls up for the penalty shootout.
It was a listless performance from our girls.
I swear I wish I hadn’t invested 2 hours of my life watching that spectacle.
Congratulations to Ghana, commiserations to Danjuma.
I think the NIGERIAN girls underrated us!
Besides we had a solid game plan of outnumbering ur girls when they are possession of the ball!
It worked effectively and Nigeria as usual were chocked in the midfield which forced them to played on the wings
Better luck next time bro because I know u love ur women football lol
This trophy is staring us in the face…. Flying eagles this is your chance common lads Let’s make history
Israel, USA, Uruguay and Italy: any two of these four teams stand in the way of Bosso’s Flying Eagles winning the world cup if they do the business against South Korea.
Wow! Nigeria Vs Italy semi and Nigeria v Israel-USA/Uruguay final.
These are all winnable fixtures.
The watch words are focus and concentration. These boys have greatness in their sights.
But South Korea won’t be easy. Good luck to our boys.
@Deo with due respect, let’s first face South Korea and win them before dreaming of Italy. Remember Brazil before Denmark and how it ended in France 98.
Soccer is no5 like that, let’s br modest in our sayings and pray for better results
Thanks Coache, I guess what I am trying to say that all the fixtures from hereon in (including this one against South Korea) are navigable and less intimidating.
This doesn’t call for arrogance or complacency. The Flying Eagles I believe have to be focused and business-like as you would expect. After all, all the teams that reached this stage earned it!
If the next round of fixtures had teams like Ghana, Brazil, Argentina, England, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Chile, Mexico or France, then I will be wetting my pants by now.
But Korea, Isreal, Uruguay? Without being arrogant these teams fill me with less fright. But football is 50-50, any team can win.
Good luck to the Flying Eagles.
Something we couldn’t achieve in 40years!Debutants Israel just made a meal of wonderful!Nigeria this is your chance you can do it!Determination, grit is what you need to make history for you and your nation.
The team I was scared of is out of the way,the teams left are beatable if we put in similar performances we had against Italy and Argentina the cup won’t be far from us.
Common flying eagles!!
please our next match is against south Korea and that is all that matters now.You guys should remember France 98 when we were fantasizing playing Brazil in the quarters only to be brought crashing by Denmark. Until it is done against South Korea, No talk of the next round for now please
Nigeria should outmuscle them!
This speed very muscles!
Muscles beat SPEED!
Ball is played on the field, not on paper. Think about it. FE have their destiny in their hand. Their future is tomorrow’s match. So tell them.
please guys don’t jinx your team don’t get carried away get past Korea first, anyone of the team left in this tournament can win it.
Italy getting the better of Colombia score line stands at 3-1 Italy with a minute of additional time left.
Should we get past Korea tomorrow it will be another titanic clash against a wounded team, they will be coming for vengeance.
Very interesting days ahead…
Until SK is dealt with decisively, let us not fantasize about the trophy being display in Abuja. South Koreans are extremely proficient in the front of a goal post. Remember that.
Let’s get past SK and then take it one after the other until the last minutes. This is a serious competition that we must not joke about.
This Israel/Brazil result should indeed be a call for caution to Nigerian fans and the Flying Eagles, but surprisingly I’m seeing comments already talking about Nigeria/Italy semi finals, and even Nigeria winning the cup. It’s obvious we are not learning our lessons as fans. Such boastful attitude caused our U-20 girls to step onto the pitch thinking that they already won against Ghana in the final match of the WAFU tournament. We all saw the result.
South Korea will not be an easy team to play against. The Flying Eagles need full attention and focus on the South Korean game to stand any chance of progressing to the next stage of the tournament, and our role as fans is to help them maintain that focus instead of fantasizing about a semi final with Italy or even winning a cup when we have not even crossed the quarter finals.
Assuming we even get past South Korea, Italy will be a huge mountain to climb considering the penchant of our local coaches to go into a tournament with only one tactical plan. Our victory against them in the group stages is very much in the past as their coach will be sure to deploy a different tactical approach. But should we even be talking about that game now when we have not even qualified for it, or guaranteed to qualify.
Hopefully the Flying Eagles coaches and players will ignore our boastful fans, keep their heads down and approach the South Korean game as the only game they have in this tournament, at least for now. It is the joy of every genuine Nigerian fan to see our team progress to the highest level in every championship, and I wish our Flying Eagles victory in the quarter finals game against South Korea.
Well Said I don’t even know how to predict matches anymore, one can only hope and see what God has in store for the team that desires it more.
I didn’t read anyone saying Nigeria/Italy semi-final rather fans were saying should the flying eagles get past Korea, you guys are just panicking unnecessarily even if we end on the losing side it’s just a game after all.
Whether you’re boastful or cautious it won’t change the result so let people express themselves whichever ways they choose, you can carry on with being nervy it’s your choice regardless it won’t change the outcome.
Friends i have a goodnews for you we win but the tension no b here. Happy Sunday to you all.
Naija will flog korea,
We are not their mate
Sheo get size
This is not Technology
We buy samsung, kia, hyundai from them
This time around they will have to buy some goals from us, infact we will supply them freely
Haaaaaaa, you make me laugh
Relax let us pray for better results , I guess u would have said that when Brazil face Israel
brazil, england, argentina all out. this is nigerias chance to win this competition finally.
What I have observed is that long balls from the goal keeper always result in a goal for us. At least I have seen two occasions kick out from our goal keeper served as assist or pre-assist for our goals in this tournament, against Italy and Argentina. Perhaps we should try it more often.
