2024 US Open: Sinner Pips Michelsen, Bags 50th Win Of Season

Jannik Sinner overcame American Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 in their Second Round clash on Thursday, August 29, at the ongoing 2024 US Open, marking his 50th win of the season.

The world number one in the PIF ATP Rankings has achieved outstanding results in 2024, winning five titles, including his first major at the Australian Open.

During the encounter, the Italian showcased his tennis prowess, comfortably advancing to a Third Round match against Australia’s Christopher O’Connell, scheduled for Saturday, August 31.

Sinner, who defeated Michelsen in their first Lexus ATP Head-to-Head meeting en route to the title in Cincinnati, has now reached the Third Round of the US Open for the fourth consecutive year.

Sinner’s best result in New York came in 2022 when he lost in a five-set, five-hour quarter-final epic against eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Earlier this month, Sinner became the first player to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals. The Italian is now eyeing the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF honours, with Alcaraz as his closest challenger.

Sinner is currently 1,090 points ahead of the Spaniard in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, a key indicator in the year-end No. 1 battle.
