Head coach of South Africa’s senior men’s national team, Hugo Broos, has expressed his disappointment with the performance of Bafana Bafana in their friendly game with Jamaica on Saturday.
As part of their preparations, Bafana faced Jamaica in Pachuca, Mexico, in a friendly match that ended 1-1.
Lyle Foster opened the scoring for Bafana before Dwayne Atkinson equalised for Jamaica.
Speaking after the game, Broos said the team would continue to work very hard in the coming days as he was not pleased with the performance he saw at Estadio Hidalgo.
“The performance was not what I expected. I think we have to analyse the game very well and see what was really wrong and try to make it better in the next few days so that we are ready for the first game against Mexico,” Broos said.
“I thought we were close (to getting to where he wants the team to be before the opening match), but again, it was, for me, a disappointing game this afternoon. So, yes, I have to look at what went wrong.
“I think it was also a matter of mentality. We have to do more, much more, than what we did this afternoon to have good results in the World Cup in the next few weeks.”
Jamaica coach Rudolph Speid insisted that Bafana Bafana held back against his team.

“As it relates to South Africa, I think they were playing within themselves, though, because probably, you know, players don’t want to get injured and everybody wants to impress the coach,” he said.
“I didn’t think they were going for it as much as they could have. But playing against Mexico in the Azteca Stadium (in the opening match of the World Cup), there’s going to be 123,000 screaming Mexicans in there, I can tell you.
“They’ll probably overload it, they’re going to be pressing high up the pitch, especially in the first half. They’re going to be pressing very high in the first half, relentless pressing, but of course, the pressure will ease as the game goes along.”

A World Cup team could not defeat the team our team C walloped. Nigeria is too good to be absent from WC no matter the Portugal friendly result.
South Africa Bafana Bafana was never a World Cup grade team! CAF and Motsepe rigged the group qualifier matches is South African favour ensuring 7 of its 10 fixtures were all “Home” matches giving SA undue advantage over its group opponents.
Also hard luck and lack of seriousness- in both NFF and players- in the early part of the qualifiers robbed Super Eagles of the automatic qualification slot.
I rate Dr Congo team more worthy of WC qualification and trust them to do better than SA Bafana team.

@Tony k, remember South Africa were deducted 3 points . Upon that we did not qualify.. Whether you believe it or not S. E sluggish and narrow minded Midfield of Iwobi and Ndidi cost us the world cup. That Midfield is the Reason we kept conceding unnecessary goals. Remember how Zimbabwe run through that middle unmarked before scoring
.Also remember how DR Congo dispossed run through the middle before also equalizing.. For a long while I wondered why SE kept giving away leads untill I watched the Midfield combo of Nnadi, Tijani and Alhassam Yusuf. These guy’s are never tired of running at opponents.. I’m 100% sure they will not concede the second goal scored by Poland.. If SE intend to qualify for the next world we must fix the Midfield.
Four four too you nailed it. They kolobied the team to a stagnant water that never flows. Same old players been recycled and some were feeling entitled while the team was playing nonsense.
God bless Chelle who came and started injecting fresh blood to the team. After all the costly mistakes he removed Ekong which is one of the boldest moves ever made by a coach in Nigeria.
With the injection of fresh blood the team will be better as everyone will know , you either perform or be kicked out.
No new player will come and be told to calm down as it.was in the past where the gate keepers were too comfortable destroying the team with entitlement mentality.
