On February 26th, 2023, Manchester United defeated Newcastle United in the EFL Cup finals by a score of 2 to 0. The finals of the competition took place at Wembley Stadium. History of the EFL Cup
The 2022–23 EFL Cup season was the 63rd season of the competition. For sponsorship reasons, it is known as the Carabao Cup. All Premier League and English Football League clubs can compete in the EFL. Furthermore, the competition winner instantly qualifies for the UEFA Europa League play-off round.
The English Football League (EFL) is a professional football tournament played by teams from England and Wales. This is one of the world’s oldest football competitions. Since its inception in 1888, the Football League has been England’s number one football league. This lasted until 1992, when the 22 leading teams formed the Premier League.
The EFL tournament splits into three divisions: League One, League Two, and the Championship, each with 24 teams, for a total of 72 teams. With relegation and promotion, the leading Championship Division teams swap places with the Premier League’s bottom teams. The bottom teams in League Two rotate with the top teams in the National League. Three Championship teams will be promoted from the Football League to the Premier League at the top. However, the bottom three teams in the Premier League will take their places.

Gameplay Statistics for the 2022-23 EFL Cup
The league began on August 2, 2022, and concluded with a match between Manchester United and Newcastle. Liverpool were the reigning champions after defeating Chelsea in the prior season’s final to win their ninth title. However, Manchester City took them out in the fourth round.
League One and League Two teams, as well as 22 of the 24 Championship teams, competed in the first round. This meant that 70 teams competed in the first round. The second round featured 50 teams, including the 35 first-round winners and the two teams left from the Championship (Tier 2). In addition, the 13 Premier League teams that were not competing in Europe participated in this round. The third round hosted 32 teams, with the draw taking place on August 24, 2022.

Manchester United’s route to the final
In the third round, Manchester United defeated Aston Villa 4-2 thanks to goals from Fernandes, Anthony Martial, McTominay, and Rashford. Then, Manchester United went up against Burnley at home in the fourth round. Eriksen and Rashford scored for Manchester United, who won 2-0.
Manchester United faced EFL League One team Charlton Athletic in the quarter-finals at home. Man United won 3-0, with Anthony scoring once and Rashford scoring twice. The team faced Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals, with the first leg taking place away at the City Ground. Rashford, Weghorst, and Fernandes scored to put Manchester United up 3-0. Manchester United then prevailed 2-0 in the second leg, with Anthony Martial and Fred each scoring once. As a result, the team finished with a perfect 5-0 record in total.
On February 26, 2023, the final match for the Carabao Cup title began at 4.30 p.m. UTC. It took place at Wembley Stadium between Manchester United and Newcastle United. This was the team’s first major trophy attempt since winning the Europa in 2017. Manchester United won the EFL title with a goal from Casemiro and an own goal, defeating Newcastle 2-0.
