AFCON 2021: Aboubakar Bags Brace Again As Cameroon Thrash Ethiopia, Qualify For Round Of 16

Vincent Aboubakar got another brace as hosts Cameroon came from a goal down to beat Ethiopia 4-1, in Group A fixture of the AFCON 2021 on Thursday.

The win means Cameroon are the first country to qualify for the round of 16.

Aboubakar scored two goals in the opening game, when Cameroon came from behind to defeat Burkina Faso.

He now leads the top scorers chart in the ongoing tournament with four goals.

Dawa Hotessa put Ethiopia in front early on, but Karl Toko Ekambi got Cameroon back on terms.

A brace after the break from Aboubakar and a second goal for Ekambi wrapped up the result though after a brilliant second-half display.

The group’s other game will see Cape Verde tackle Burkina Faso later on Thursday.

It will be Cameroon vs Nigeria in the final. Then, NIgeria will prevail as we will be on a mission called “payback time”

Ehen! Na now I dey watch Afcon. I love score lines with high goal margin. If you want to win, win like a king not all those narrow escape 1-0 win will have been watching since the start of Afcon… CONGRATULATIONS Cameroon! Better luck next time Ethiopian.

So am expecting a high goal margin against sudan 2moro

  • Four four two 2 years ago

According to reports from own goal, Awaziam came to camp with a hidden injury and may not take part in the tournament. This has angered team officials because they believe he has wasted a slot that will have gone to a fit player

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

*A win with high goal margin* (Convincing ass thrashing) lol.

  • Not in the next round yet. But if bokinafaso lose their match tonight then they are tru

They’ve qualified already. Even if Cape Verde beat Burkina Faso, both Cameroun and Cape Verde will have 6 points each. Even if Cameroun loses their last game against Cape Verde (they’ll still qualify as best-losers).
They’re through to next round, no Need for long talk.

I read some funny comments here about Cameroun after they narrowly beat Burkina Faso. Anyone not taking Cameroun serious is not being realistic. On paper, they have similar squad to Nigeria. I tip them to go all the way to the final – that’s if they don’t meet Super Eagles.
If they meet Eagles, its going to be one cracking game, anyone can win.
The battle will probably be won by who’s more clinical or who defends better.

  • MONKEY POST 2 years ago

Aboubakar is not just clinical. His major attributes is in his power, very strong and he is pacy too. He is a bully to defenders. Hard to handle him right from Besiktas days. You know those days as a kid I use to think footballers of this size get tired easily but where this gets strength from, I still wonder. He reminds of the late Junior Agogo of Ghana.

Cameroon are a force to reckon with, they could have even scored up to 6 in that match. They played with utmost determination, topnotch attack. Some very interesting fixtures are coming up in this AFCON. I’d like to see Nigeria Vs Cameroon or Cameroon Vs Algeria or Senegal. A hell of a fixture

    • I said here from the first match that Cameroon where a force to reckon with and their goal threat will only improve as the tournament progress. Deo was saying something else that the Cameroon team don’t look like tournament favourites. Smh. Even CIV played better than Super Eagles despite our win over Egypt. They too are strong contenders to win this tournament.

I will once again state it here that I am worried about our ball transition from the goal keeper to the attack. From our first match, we were using long balls which is inefficient in terms of control and possession. This is an area we need to improve on.

Honestly I miss Etebo in this team. His combination with Ndidi and Iwobi would have been a great advantage for us.

Let’s see how our match against Sudan goes.

      • Cameroun win Ethiopia now, you guys praising them, by the time SE thrash Sudan on Saturday, nobody should tell us Sudan is small team, because that match I watch was end to end till the 2nd round, infact Ethiopia should have kill the match if not for some funny miss. Finger cross but truth be told I think cameroun have really raise the bar for subsequent AFCON host countries in terms of facility and organization, i duff my hat for them.

      • Mirah 2 years ago

        Yea, you’re right brother

But Cameroon didn’t look this serious against Burkina Faso which actually validated Deo’s assessment of them at that time.

That smooth transition from defense to attack through neatly worked passes isn’t really strong in our game against Egypt, thank God Ekong long passes in that match were accurate. Etebo is Nigeria’s Kante, that dude is a beast on his day. I believe the team will improve as the competition continues

Super Eagles, no room for complacency o

All this complete sport translators make una Dey wait small. Cameroon never qualify yet ooo. The out come of the other match betwin Buki and CV Naim go determine as long as e end draw.
    Now buki dey win
    Cam 6point
    BUKI 3point
    CV 3point
    ETI 0 point

    Last match na
Cam vs CV AND Buki vs ETI,

If CV Beat Cam na 6point den Buki beat ETI na 6pt too
Then goal advantage go enter or head to head or any other thing.
So mathematically in football Cameroon fit still finish third. CAMEROON NEVA QUALIFY.
I JUST WANT MAKE UNA DEY MORE PROFESSIONAL AS UNA DEY FEED US NEWS.

Am not worried about Cameroon one bit because, they are not organized just like there opponents. They haven’t faced a balance team yet. There games are not interesting one bit. They were just fortunate because they have strong guy in Vincent. Well lets see who they face in the next round

    • Omo9ja 2 years ago

I agree with you. I’m not convinced and I can tell in their two matches bn played so far, Cameroon can’t go far in this tournament. They are bn lucky so far. When the time comes, I won’t be surprised. Congratulations to Cameroon for making it to the round of 16. God bless Nigeria!!!
