Democratic Republic of Congo made a perfect start to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a slim 1-0 victory over Benin Republic.
Théo Bongonda scored the winning goal in the 16th minute with Arthur Masuaku providing the assist.
The goal proved enough in the keenly contested encounter.

Benin dominated the game but were let down by their poor finishing.
Congo maintained their lead thanks to disciplined organization at the back.
The Leopards will face the Terangha Lions of Senegal in their next game.
Benin will be up against Botswana in their next Group D fixture.

I agree with you @ Taiwo. The Dr Congo team is very ordinary and I still can’t understand how SE capitulated from the 2nd half after Osimhen’s exit to make them look too good on the pitch at the playoff that day.
Well let’s see how SE go on this Afcon. They look more serious and mobile upto the end of the 1st half against Tanzania today.
