Manchester United legend Gordon Strachan has expressed worry regarding Xabi Alonso’s career choices, particularly suggesting he jumped into the deepest part of the Atlantic with the Chelsea manager job, noting the immense pressure.
Alonso was heavily linked with top roles including Real Madrid and Liverpool before ultimately being reported to take over at Chelsea on a four-year contract.
In a chat with Andy’s Bet Club, Strachan said he is worried for the former midfielder who he thinks could be in for trouble.

“Xabi Alonso hasn’t jumped into the deep end, he’s jumped into the deepest part of the Atlantic, because you never know what’s coming at Chelsea.
“I think Chelsea fans, first of all, you’ve got an academy, why don’t you use your academy? And secondly, Chelsea fans, like most fans, only want to win games of football. I don’t care who you are. So again, don’t come up with your philosophies and other things, just win games of football.
“I think if Alonso just goes, ‘Right, you’ll need to give me two or three really experienced players here.’ If you want the kids to improve, there’s nothing better for them than standing beside great experienced players every day, learning from them on the pitch and off the pitch. That’s the only way.
“You can also learn bad habits if you get bad professionals in. But that’s the best way of learning, is getting good people as a manager around you to set standards at the club.”
