Aluko Retires From Professional Football At 35

Former Super Eagles forward, Sone Aluko, has retired from professional football.

Aluko and Premier League newly promoted club Ipswich made the announcement.

The 35-year-old made just one league appearance for Ipswich this season but featured six times in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

Speaking at the club’s end-of-season dinner said: “Honestly, I couldn’t imagine a better place to end it all.

“This club, from the top to the bottom, is just amazing. Being here has been a true privilege.

“To all the lads, I’ve grown to love each and every one of you – even you, Harry Clarke.”

Other clubs Aluko featured for are Hull, Aberdeen, Rangers, Blackpool, Birmingham, Fulham, Reading, and Chinese club Beijing Chengfeng.

After representing England at U-16, U-17, U-18, and U-19 levels, he switched allegiance to Nigeria and was part of the Flying Eagles squad that featured at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.

Other members of the Flying Eagles squad include Odion Ighalo, Obiorah Nwankwo, King Osanga, and Nurudeen Orelesi.

He made his full debut for the Super Eagles in 2009 in an international friendly against the Republic of Ireland which ended 1-1 draw.
