Enyimba defender Ifeanyi Anaemena is thrilled with his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles and hopes more local players will get the chance to play for the team in future, reports Completesports.com.
Anaemena took the place of Locomotiv Moscow of Russia left-back, Bryan Idowu who withdrew from the squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Benin and Lesotho due to passport issues.
The tough tackling defender was a key member of the Enyimba side that won the Nigeria Professional Football League title last season.
“I’m excited to be here, it’s a great privilege to be invited. I want to appreciate the coach for the opportunity and I hope more NPFL players will get this opportunity,” the centre-back told a news conference in Uyo on Tuesday.
“I hope this Super Eagles invitation will increase the stakes of NPFL players.”
Anaemena has one cap with the home-based Super Eagles .
