Anderson Withdraws From Monte Carlo

World number seven Kevin Anderson will not play in the Monte Carlo Masters after withdrawing from the clay tournament next week.

The 6ft 8in South African has been struggling with an elbow injury in recent weeks and has made the decision to not participate in the tournament, as he continues his recovery to try and get back to fitness for the rest of the clay season.

After a very positive 2018, in which the 32-year-old won two ATP titles in New York in February and Vienna in October, as well as reaching the final of Wimbledon, he has had a slightly disappointing start to 2019.]

He won the Maharashtra Open in India in January but suffered a second-round exit in the Australian Open after losing to Francis Tiafoe in four sets.

He was then forced to miss the New York Open which he was defending, as well as the Indian Wells tournament as he was still feeling uncomfortable when serving.

Anderson is expected to return at Estoril at the end of the month to get his clay season underway.
