Aranguiz Snubbed Hammers Switch – Pellegrini

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that he tried and failed to lure midfielder Charles Aranguiz to West Ham from Bayer Leverkusen. The Hammers boss revealed the 30-year-old Chile international is one of several compatriots he has either signed or been interested in signing during his time in managerial positions.

Aranguiz had already snubbed a move to England in the past with Leicester City and Pellegrini revealed he was also rebuffed by the player when trying to bolster the squad at the London Stadium in a previous transfer window. He said: “I will not talk about conversations, but I can tell you that I would have loved to have many Chilean players who have been figures worldwide.

“In the past I took several: Salas, Rojas, Matias Fernandez, Iturra, Moras; I have taken seven or eight Chilean players. I tried to take Aranguiz to West Ham, but he did not want to.” Pellegrini has instead attempted to plug the creativity gap in his ranks this summer by bringing in Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals in a £24million deal from Villarreal.
