Arsenal have opened talks to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in an early summer deal.
The Gunners’ new sporting director Andrea Berta is a big fan of the Sweden international forward, 26, and is now leading the pursuit.
Negotiations are taking place behind the scenes to convince the striker and put together a package to secure his signature.
In a new twist, Gyokeres is now the first-choice Arsenal striker target – following previous links with the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Victor Osimhen.
Arsenal are prioritising the signing of an elite number nine in the upcoming summer window after falling short in the Premier League title race this term.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus both picked up season-ending injuries earlier this year, leaving the likes of Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino to lead the line for Mikel Arteta‘s side.
Gyokeres, who is under contract with Sporting until June 2028, has hit 47 goals in 46 outings across all competitions this season.
He has also been linked with a move to Man United – with ex-Sporting boss Ruben Amorim now in place at Old Trafford.
The 26-cap Sweden star has previous experience in England after his time with Brighton and Coventry.
