Arsenal Secure Record Equaling FA Cup Semi-Final Appearance After Dramatic Win Vs Sheffield United

A late Dani Ceballos goal secured a hardfought 2-1 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday and progressed into the semi-final of this season’s Emirates FA Cup.

The win means Arsenal have now qualified for the FA Cup semi-final for the 30th time, equaling the feat first achieved by Manchester United when they beat Norwich City 2-1 on Saturday.

Arsenal opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Nicolas Pepe who converted from the penalty spot after foul on Alexandre Lacazette.

In the 87th minute Sheffield United equalised through David McGoldrick who pounced on a poor clearance by the Arsenal defence off a long throw.

It was Sheffield United’s first goal since football resumed in England.

But in the 91st minute Ceballos scored the winner as he slot home from a tight angle following build up play from Bukayo Saka and Edward Nketiah.

Sheffield United had the ball in the net on eight minute following a header from John Lundstram, but after consultation with VAR the goal was disallowed for offside.

In the 56th minute Sheffield United saw another goal scored by John Egan ruled out for offside following consultation with VAR.

Prior to Sunday’s game Arsenal had won just one of their last eight away matches against Sheffield United in all competitions (three defeats, four draws).

Arsenal have now joined Manchester United in the semi-final of this season’s Emirates FA Cup.

The other quarter-final of the FA Cup will see Leicester host Chelsea at the King Power stadium and Newcastle United entertain holders Manchester City at St. James’ Park.
