Arsenal Thrash Charlton Athletic In Friendly

Arsenal defeated Championship strugglers Charlton Athletic 6-0 at the Emirates on Saturday, as they step up their preparations towards Premier League return.

With the league set to resume on June 17 following the coronavirus lockdown, Arsenal alongside a number of clubs have been attempting to build up their players’ fitness.

Also, it was organised to help the players get used to the behind-closed doors conditions they can expect for competitive action.

Young striker Eddie Nketiah got a hat-trick while the trio of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Joe Willock scored a goal each.

Lacazette opened the scoring with a fierce strike from outside of the box, before a darting run from Aubameyang on the left flank ended with the Gabon international curling the ball inside the far post.

The third goal came with Nketiah fastest to tap home in a second-half goalmouth scramble that came after a Dani Ceballos free-kick.

Arsenal added a fourth when Nketiah found the net once more, this time coolly converting a one-on-one.

The academy graduate completed his hat-trick, heading home after a great ball from Joe Willock.

Willock then added a goal of his own just moments before the final whistle, with a first-time strike that sent the ball into the top-left corner from the edge of the box.

Arsenal will mark their return to the Premier League with an away tie against Manchester City.
