Taiwo Awoniyi netted another brace as Nottingham Forest held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s Premier League game.
Last week Monday Awoniyi also bagged a brace in Forest’s 4-3 home win against Southampton.
The Super Eagles striker has taken his tally in the league to eight.
Also on the double in the game at Stanford Bridge was Raheem Sterling.
Awoniyi opened scoring in the 13th minute after getting on the end of Renan Lodi’s cross to head Forest in front.
In the 51st minute Chelsea equalised as Trevoh Chalobah’s pass found Sterling in the centre of the box and his finish took a deflection on its way into the net.
Sterling then completed the comeback to put Chelsea 2-1 ahead in the 58th minutes.
But on 62 minutes Awoniyi got his second of the game to make it 2-2.
The result leaves Forest (on 34 points) in 16th place with two games left to play while Chelsea are 11th on the league table.
At St. Mary’s Southampton were officially relegated to the Championship after 10 years in the Premier League following a 2-0 loss to Fulham.
Paul Onuachu, who made his 11th league appearance without a goal, was in action before going off for Black Stars’ Kamaldeen Sulemana.
His Nigerian teammate Joe Aribo was an unused substitute for the Saints.
In other results, Eberechi Eze scored two goals, Michael Olise had an assist in Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win against Bournemouth, Aston Villa beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1, Manchester United overcame Wolves 2-0 and Newcastle United held Leeds to a 2-2 draw away.

Nice one.
4 EPL goals in 2 matches !
Keep banging goals.
Awoniyi is very strong and fast for a guy of that height and he is also skillful too……he has a very unique talent of moving into space and anticipating where the danger is …….I think SE need to see more of Awoniyi because we can not just discard a player like Awoniyi from SE Because of one bad day in the office……he is still very young and useful to the national team…… Awoniyi made the right decision in moving to the EPL and I am so happy I have been vindicated….. Awoniyi has shown to the whole world that he is a world class striker and am happy that nobody will argue that with me here again……Even if Forest does not survive the drop , Awoniyi will be a beautiful bride to many EPL teams because a guaranteed EPL tested goal scorer is not common.
Yes…I can attest to your unflinching support for AWO 9 just like me , LARRY and few others in the wake of his transfer to NF.
You won’t see them comment because they have eaten humble pies and like SENATOR AHMED LAWAN are LICKING THEIR WOUNDS in shame
@Mahmud,they have gone hiding. Lol. They are waiting for Chukwueze or Iheanacho to score before they comment.
The other day the number one ethnic jingoist on this forum was praising Onuachu and did everything to pull down Awoniyi. Now, the world knows who the better striker is.
Even Osimhen has had a bad day playing for SE.
The best pairing for SE is Awo and Osi9. Now you see them praising a Chanpionship player or upcoming player which I don’t have a problem with but doing everything to pull down a player scoring and winning man of the match against top teams like Liverpool and Chelsea is just delusional.
Awoniyi no wan hear word ooo. Just snatching goals all over the place.
If Peseiro still prefers the 442 system, Awoniyi should be the guy partnering Osimhen. He should then look for a very good creative midfielder with a good ball playing DMF. May be we will begin to have a different result
I ve said several times Awo is a unique player, a constant menace to defenders, Awo and Osimihen, just like Dwight York and Andy Cole, two different strikers, but both unique players. Remove sentiments and tribalism Awo and Osimihen are our top two strikers for now.
