Awoniyi’s Historic Goal Earns Manchester City Premier League Title

Taiwo Awoniyi scored the winning goal as Nottingham Forest escaped relegation from the Premier League following a 1-0 win against Arsenal at the City Ground on Saturday.

Awoniyi opened scoring for the Tricky Trees on 19 minutes.

The Nigeria international met Morgan Gibbs-White’s pass and slotted the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.

The 25-year-old made history as the first Nottingham Forest player to score in three consecutive league games.

He scored a brace each in Steve Cooper’s previous two games Southampton and Chelsea.

Awoniyi has now scored 10 goals and recorded one assist in 26 league appearances for the Reds this season.

The striker was replaced by Brennan Johnson 11 minutes from time.

Arsenal’s defeat hand the Premier League title to Manchester City.

The Citizens have now won the Premier League title for a fifth time in six seasons.

  • Hes doing well for forest, I give him that, give credit when credit is due. But it doesnt change the fact that most of these Nigerian players will be relegated, or bottom half team when they play for the pl. The highest pl team that wanted Awoniyi was forest. Union berlin are in champions league spot. Still dumb move for me.

Everybody wants to kill their career just to play in the pl. Aribo, Onachua, maybe Kelechi, Ndidi and Iwobi are next. Osimhen probably the only good thing happening for the super eagles. Only one with sense. Especially beating George Weah record in serie a. What, is Awoniyi the next Drogba or play like Drogba? Lol they will start saying that. But theres a 2 seasons bounce. Happened with sheffield united. Finished 7th place after being promoted. A season later got relegated and gonna happen with leeds too. I even forgot about Denis. Nothing but mediocrity across the board

Awoniyi is on fire and deserves EPL player of the Month. 5 goals in 3 games, Goals against Arsenal, Chelsea and Southampton us no mean feat.

Congratulations, Taiwo. Nottingham Forest’s investment in you has paid off. You have shown you have what it takes to play and excel in the premier league, scoring important goals against big teams including Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal and winning man of the match award about two times or so. It is unfortunate you were out injured for a considerable length of time. Otherwise, you would have been counting 15 goals or more. Overall, you had a decent first season among the elites.

He will not be called to Super Eagles because he has no God father at helm of affairs in NFF . Stupid country that her bedrock is corruption.

    • Stop unnecessary debate, Awoniyi was injured for a while, and he was not that in form before the injury. You guys should stop generalizing on everything…I’m sorry but it makes you look dumb. Nigeria has many strikers and Awoniyi would have to prove himself more….at least we saw him at the last Afcon.

What impressed me about the goal was the run he made in behind the Arsenal defense. Top class.
Rumour has it that Pep has sent Awoniyi a thank you card for scoring the goal that finally landed Man City the league title.

  • Awoniyi has really proved a point to doubters. His goals are responsible for more than half of NF points in EPL and the reason why the escaped relegation Like he did at the previous clubsides he played for, he is breaking scoring records at NF. Just like his goals helped newly promoted Union Berlin escaped relegation in his first season and turned the team to a major clubside in the German League in subsequent season. He is on a roll to repeat same feat at NF.
The real truth why he is not getting invited to SE is because he doesn’t have a Godfather and doesn’t give shish. He was scoring regularly at UB but they keep inviting strikers at lower league in Europe and unrated league ahead of him.
The top strikers for SE are Osi, Awo, Moffi and Orban. The best combination for now is Osi and Awo and play Iwobi, Lookman (Chukz) and Orban (Moffi) close to them.
Play Onyedika and Al-Hassan in the middle. Sanusi(Bassey) Akpo , Ajay (Bruno) and Ebuehi (replace injured Sam & Aina). Adeleye in goal.
In my own view and base on current form in each position, this is the team of the season and best for SE for now.

Is like the guy went for serious marathon prayer for his career during his injury time.

I guess Awóníyì must have visited some ori oke for prayer.

Since he came back form his injury layoff the guy has been on fire.

  • Awoniyi to me is the closest striker similar to osimhen in SE at the moment……. Until I see Sodiq do his thing in Sociadad I will give it to Awoniyi……Big.Strong.Athletic.Good in the air.Great finishing……I expect Awoniyi back in SE immediately because I see no reason Onuachu should be ahead of Awoniyi….No be juju be that?….lolz

Yes, the turnaround for Awoniyi is magical since his layoff injury return. He was given a chance before in the National team, he could not perform. But boy, who will ignore him now? do so at their own peril.
