Barcelona Celebrate Oshoala’s Ballon D’Or Nomination

Laliga giants Barcelona have celebrated Asisat Oshoala and their other players who were nominated for the 2022 Ballon D’Or award.

On Friday organizers of Ballon D’Or, France Football, unveiled nominees for this year’s award with Oshoala one of five Barcelona women’s player who made the 20-woman list.

And celebrating Oshoala and other Barcelona player who were nominated in other categories, the Catalan club wrote on their website:”France Football announced the shortlist this Friday for the men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or, and there are plenty of Barça names in the running, as is Gavi for the Kopa Trophy for the best young player in the world.

“A quarter of the candidates are Barça players, with Fridolina Rölfo, Lucy Bronze, Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí and Asssat Oshoala all in the running for the women’s prize.

“Gavi is an especially impressive case as he is a year younger than most of his rivals for best player aged under 20. Should he win, he’d be the second successive winner for the club, after Pedri picked up the prize a year ago.

“The club’s previous winners of the men’s award have been Luis Suárez (1966), Johan Cruyff (1973 and 1974), Hristo Stoichkov (1994), Rivaldo (1999), Ronaldinho (2005) and Leo Messi (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2019), while Alexia Putellas was the recipient of the women’s award last year.

“The winners of this 66th edition of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in Paris on October 17.”

All the awards to Oshoala doesn’t make sense to me one bit because she has NOT made an mark and impact felt in Super Falcons like Perpetual Nkwocha, Mercy Akide and Cythia Uwak. Pls don’t get it twisted I love her (Oshoala) so much but I’m a straightforward person. I feel awards is misleading and meaningless if National team impart is not giving larger percent of the ration of measuring insicators

Because she doesn’t perform with the national team doesn’t paint her not to be a great player. Club football should take the largest chunk when talking about examining players because they play more games for their clubs compared to their country.

You have not prove anything, kindly provide a player in Africa that can beat her the time she won them in both her country and club. You can only do this if you know all other players in Africa.

Thanks @Four four two. I cannot agree less. All her awards and even this nomination are bogus, no meaningful impact on the senior national team! Charity they say begins at home.

A player who has won all these has still not made her mark…? Hian. She must have to lay her womb and kidneys on the pitch to “make her mark” for the National team

      Nigeria

      FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup runner-up: 2014

Copa de la Reina: 2019–20, 2020–21
      Primera División Top scorer: 2021–22

This is a player who started out as a defensive midfielder.

Please show us what Perpetua or Uwak or Akide achieved for Nigeria that Oshoala hasnt, considering that she is even playing in an era where female football has grown and become tougher.

No disrespect, but Assisat would, by the time she’s quitting football, have eclipsed in achievement and impact what any other female footballer has achieved for Nigeria.

So this year how many national team matches on board unlike the more than 40 matches played at club level mind u this season is not even world cup year

  • Coache 2 years ago

Awards are dubious otherwise why did Etoo win AFOTY 98 (not sure of exact dates o) when Okocha should have? Messi winning last year’s ballon Dior?

  • Four four two 2 years ago

Yeah, …this is absolute non sense. The total marks for awards should be based on ; (1) national team impart 60%, clubside performance ( 25%), and international club performance(25]. This is the only awares will be unbiased and meaningful.

    • Dr. Drey 2 years ago

      Wow.

5 international matches in a non-world cup year should carry more weight than 40-50 club matches.

National team matches must most probably be played on volcanic lava.

      Weldone.

  • Congratulations to her….

Though she has a very slim chance of claiming the award, Oshoala has had a blistering career she would be proud of.

I’m backing Victor Osimhen To Be the Next Nigerian to Make Balon d’Or nomination and possibly wins it.

However, Sadio Mane seems the only African who can challenge Benzema for this year’s award

  • Kunle 2 years ago

One has to reason before argument, what chanda and kagtlana has done this year to beat osoola.
Someone should nominate player that is better than her right now in club. Since 2018 wafcon another one 2022, tell me Africa player that can beat her right now.

Quite optimistic that this Edo girl will eventually make the mc. Ride on Oshoa Bebe.
