Barcelona are ready to hijack Lazio’s bid to sign Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno, by offering him a two-year deal. Moreno is out of contract with Liverpool in the summer but there is no sign of him penning a new one, meaning he will end his seven-year stay with the club by leaving on a free transfer.

Italian side Lazio appeared to be in the box seat to do a deal after Moreno was spotted in Rome last week, fuelling reports talks had taken place with a view to signing on the dotted line. Such a move would see Moreno link up with former Reds team-mate and current Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva, but reports in Spain say that Barcelona are ready to scupper that deal.
The Catalan giants want cover for current left-back Jordi Alba, but do not want to break the bank in the process and see Moreno as the perfect option. Moreno could now be faced with a tricky decision which could hinge on where he is likely to get more first-team action.
