Benitez Waiting On Toon Talks

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez says he is still waiting for the board to set a date regarding new contract talks. The Spaniard’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the campaign and speaking to Radio Marca, he explained that he had told the hierarchy what he would like in order for him to sign fresh terms.

Benitez seems happy in England and, after seemingly guiding the club to another season of safety, would be in high demand from other Premier League clubs if he became available. The 59-year-old admits there are financial limitations that his club are working under but is keen to speak to the board at their digression regarding potential options going forward.

He said: “I am in contact with the club and I am waiting for answers to questions I have proposed to continue. My family is in England, here I am content but a series of conditions have to be met. “To stay, we need to sit down, talk well about the economic possibilities of the club and what direction we’re going in.

We have to mix experience and youth, that is the balance we have to achieve. “English teams have a lot of economic potential and attract the best players. That’s good for big Premier League teams but it’s a drawback for teams like ours.”
